this is definitely a step in the right direction for sony. although i never played ps2 online, i heard that it was pretty shitty compared to live. i think that it was neceessary for sony to have a better online market and community for their next generation as it has become such a major part of video games today

well if sony's online service is anything less then xbox live i will be suprised, considering that they have had an extra year over xbox.
PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.

Its all a guess at this point. A lot of angry american kids are flaming the PS3 though. Thats really funny to me. It seems as though 360 is trying to market to the 15-21s while Sony seems to be targeting the 20-30s. A better target if you ask me, they have more money in the end. Nintendo is doing the shotgun effect trying to target damn near everyone, but I think that will work out. Anyways, no matter what happens people will complain.

I disagree with that. I'm 22 and I am pretty sure i'm not ready to grow out my toy (A.K.A. 360). They are coming out with suitable games to keep the adult gamer more than content (A.K.A. I got SCDA yesterday and it's beautiful looking, involving, decision making brilliance.... then in a couple of weeks Gears will arrive which goes without saying).
Also, I think Microsoft is targetting the widest range of consumers possible, to sell more consoles (it is there job).
They are making a conscious effort to break into the Japanese market -which is starting to happen thanks to Blue Dragon bundles).
But you all still back Sony and they don't do us the courtesy of putting the effort in. They EXPECT the European market just to trod along with its tail wagging, and a lot of you do!
I'm not saying I WON'T ever have a PS3, but I'm not going to hunt down Sony with my tail tucked between my legs and my wallet out.
Also, worth noting, XBL is 100% sufficient for any purpose it's needed for and is well designed. If you want to browse the internet from you're game console 'just cause' then you're a snob! C'mon, y'all have PC's.
And I' not an angry American kid ;)

I think sony is more than capable of making a service equal to live and offer it free (for the most part) nintendo is doing the same. M$ just loves money too F****** much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its dumb when ppl bash on Sony consoles cuz it does too much to be considered a gaming console. I think the more features the better.

I''m jmust throwing in my two cents. I don't think they're doing too much to be considered a gaming console. HOWEVER, I do think the 360 is doing more than enough to be considered a gaming console. I'm not bashing the PS3 for having a web browser, you guys are bashing the 360 for not having one.
I'm not bashing Sony as much as you think, hell, I might even get a PS3. But, they really have to prove themselves. You say MS love's money too much, have you seen the PS3's price? lol they all do.
And I guarantee you're almighty and free PS3 online network aint so good when they aint gettin' money to fund it.

well i am 19 so i gues i fall in that context, but i feel with the games M$ are releasing in the near future, if i was 22 or above i supose i would still be interested, especially with games like splintercell double agent, gears of war, call of duty 3 and rainbow veygas, which all release within a mounth of eachother.

exactly, at this point in time, we can not say ps3 online will be better than xbox live, i am expecting it to be better, but with 2 million people logged on with xbox live it will be tuff, also especially considering that sony will not be charging for the online service, must mean that they will not be providing somehting, like demos or other free stuff that M$ supplies.

its not bashing ps3, its just comparing the two consoles, people like to dot that, and from what i can see in my opinion, both consoles have great games coming out in the final quarter of 2006, graphical wise, i have only seen 1 game from sony (from the launch lineup) that challenges gears of war, moter storm, which looks amazing, but for me not enought to buy the console. but we all know that 2007 holds a lot of great games for both consoles.

I'm going to get crucified for this but it's my HONEST opinion...
Resistance aint aimed at 20-30 year olds I don't think. Too me, it's a fairly generic fps without too much depth. It DOES look nice, but fps fans seem to be the type of gamers I hate playing with. (e.g. 80% of Halo 2 player (I hate Halo btw).
what other first party titles is there to compare?-
*Ridge Racer 7? The gameplay in Ridge Racer is a joke, seriously, even on the 360, very difficult to take serious.
*NBA 07 - who cares?
*Full Auto 2 - the 1st one on the 360 was pathetic. "lets see how much we can blow up on screen - oh yeah, and when you're done, make it into a game"
*Genji - this one might be good!!!
360 exclusives -
*Gears of War - Usual crap, blockbuster-like story, innovative gameplay, chainsaw gun, curb stomping, dull graphics on some unheard of in-house game engine.
*Fable 2 - RPG, run around a massive world doing whatever you want - BORING.
*Condemned - Another psychological fps horror. yawn.
*Prey - Yet another fps. Same old fps - except you're an indian abducted onto a living alien ship, fighting aliens using ancient indian powers and alien weapons and portals.
*PGR3 - the cars look as though they're made of cardboard.
Splinter Cell - more photo-realistic decision making Clancy nonsense.
I want a PS3, and I want decent games for it, and I want them both before 2010!!!!!

i know nathing about xbox360 and ps3 targeting 21 year olds but i know for sure that if i told sony that i could get every one under 21 to buy there console, they pay me a great amount, because it was the under 21 who bought most of ps1 and ps2, so it would make sence for them to aim at them because a hugh amount of there market is bought because of under 21's.

The Problem i have with Microsoft is most of there games are the same.Also when XBOX first came out all MS did was port games over to the XBOX & live on life surport from HALO.They was not agressive, now they trying to be & i think its too late.Sony bash MS head in on game selection.Which i dont see why people compare the two console.If you looked at just number meaning who buys what,It no contest Sony got to much of a grip on the market,Japan gamer will never come over to MS because they are loyal.Somethings money cant buy.

I don't think it will really matter if online is free on the ps3 or not because its alwyas been free on the ps2 and still way more poeple pay to play on xbox live some people have told me that ps2 online sucks and I have tried it and i didn't think it was very good..nothing like xbl.

hmm doesnt online quality depends on the game? I dont know why ppl say PS2 online sucks it was alright imo. Well i only played MGO thats about it but dont ppl who use xbl only use it for Halo?
So when ppl say that PS2 online sucks does it mean like the speed or lagging issues or just that you cant chat or whatever....cuz i thought that it depends on the game. So what makes xbl so much better or what makes the PS2 so bad?

Killzone - First one was overrated - hopefully notes where taken.
Call of Duty - Multiplatform
Devil May Cry 4 - How'd I forget this?? One of my favourite PS2 titles.
Getaway - Hated the previous titles
Killing Day - Dont have much info on this.
Motorstorm - Hopefully more than eye candy.

You what?? The 360 has been out about a year, and I think they have covered most genre's with a 'next-gen' adaption. Get over the Xbox=FPS. I'm not even s big fps fan, they can get pretty repetitive and I like a variety of games. I'm not so sure, the 360's console sales where boosted like 30% when the Blue Dragon bundle was released. I think this shows, that a solid lineup of Japanese games could sway them towards quality over quantity.

PS32 online was terrible, and I don't think making PS3 online free was a good business move. Only time will tell with that one. Will the PS3 have there own servers for online gaming? or is it up to the individual company again?

Ok lets all just chill a little and get back on track.
If u think about it the ps3 works out costing less than the 360 if u play online. If u not paying for it then hey it's all good.
I'm one of the few people that didn't mind ps2 online cause i find too many features in an online service a bit annoying. All i want to do is play online, have frenz lists and score tracking. I really don't need all the other stuff anyway. It's crappy to sell a game for $60 then ask ppl to to pay for online after that. U already own the damn game

What dyou mean? When I finish a game AI take it online to get more gameplay from it.
e.g. what dyou do when you complete GRAW?
1. Do it again, and maybe again?
2. Play online and battle it out via deathmatches, team gaes etc.
I go for the second option every time.
Unless you mean asking people to pay to play online?

I agree in a way. I wouldn't buy a game then pay to play a.k.a. FFXII.
But I happily pay £40 a year for access to XBL to play online, download exclusive game videos, download demos and the variety of other features.
If y'all are honest I bet you're used to paying over £40 a year for game magazines to get the demo's? I admit that.

Dont get me wrong but Sony online service was okay but i did have serious problem with there Socom series.Socom 1,2 there was to much glitching on there and people was using codebreaker.Socom is a Sony game so i figure they would fix this asap.Wrong Sony didnt care anymore because they got Socom 3 now, So they let people get away with cheating on Socom 1,2.That why im not holding my breath on there new online service.But i can say that EA this year has done a great job with there Madden 07 server & they dont take any cheating.The cheating was so bad on Socom at one point i didn't mind paying for online service anymore because i have learn a lesson if its free that dont aways mean its good.

i know, its awesome and the video i saw from ign was not even in HD.
i never thought the game would look that good. i can not wait till it comes out.

You die-hard PS3 guys should check it out because that's what you've got to look forward to on the PS3, UE3 is breathtaking when it's well implemented.
Both consoles have advantages and disadvantages, but it's safe to say they're both packed full of horsepower. Two years ago, I never imagined games like this coming out on a console, never mind every week or two!
Love Microsoft or hate them, they definitely gave the industry a kick up the backside and forced Sony to step up there game.
Sony is still marketing the PS2, I don't think they had any intention to release the PS3 in 2006, until they knew the 360 was coming along.
Every month a game comes out that leaves me in awe, this month it's Splinter Cell. That game looks as good as it plays and there's so much variety, I can't believe Iused to be excited playing Syphon Filter!

my gues is, next mounth people will be comparing resistance and gears of war, i for one am looking forward to seeing both those games in action.
i would have liked to get a ps3, but since i was cursed buy being born in london, i gues i will just have to come here to read how good or bad the ps3 is, offcourse while playing, call of duty 3, gears of war and rainbow veygas i do not think i will be too unhappy.

I'm interested in a lot of PS3 titles, Resistance isn't one of them. I'm getting fed up of run of the mill fps shooters. Maybe it's simply to early to tell what features it'll have (although it looks good graphically), but i'm a lot more excited for Assassins Creed.
