Hi, i am a bit of a noob to the idea of this swap magic. I want to get my kids slimline PS2 capable of playing imported games, etc and a guy wanted to charge me £35 in order to get a swapmagic disk and bits inserted. However he thankfully couldnt get round to do it and i've now seen it online for £12.

Right getting to my point .... i have seen on here that the tissue/tape or tissue/straw route seems to be quite straightforward and relatively successful. But what about the disk. I have very young kids that dont really appreciate that disks are scratchable, so i want to know if i backed the disk up to another DVD would they be able to use that or does it have to be an original?.

Cheers

has to be the original im afraid mate, otherwise it would be like trying to play a backed up game. In other words it wouldn't work...

You HAVE TO PROTECT your swap magic. I've been trying to back up my dvd swap magic, won't work.
So my advice, keep your swap magic safe. Just protect it as one of your child :D

There's something called TOC on a disc. The Ps2 looks for this number (a few centimeters from the centers' edge), as to see if the disc is indeed a bootable media. That's why we have to buy SM; it's got that TOC number that the PS2 reads valid. Any regular game that's burned won't have a TOC. SM allows to stop the disc, and switch it, the PS2 thinking the TOC from SM is what's keeping the game bootable. Unless you have a DVD press (which from what I heard, are hella' expensive), you won't be able to back up SM or anything. Hope this helped.

I'll help anybody who needs PSP help but only if you've helped yourself first - Everything the scene knows is self taught. What makes you spoonfed n000bs special?

PROJECT EE IS A FARCE!! THE REAL SCENE HAS SPOKEN - n00bs with an idea but no coding skill does not make a firmware.
