What has happened to us? Where did we go wrong? When I was young I played Super Mario Bros. and loved that game. I set my Atari controller down, picked up the Nintendo controller and played my little 6 year old thumbs off. When I was done at the end of the day I didn't curse at my Atari. I never poured water on it for being inferior. Nope, I kept it. And why? Well the same reason you haven't thrown away or traded in your PSX most likely. Those were some damn good games.
Something has happened to us gamers over time. We have become angry. For some odd reason we take pride in hearing that a console we never plan on buying did something wrong, or has some sort of problem. Why? Why is it all of a sudden so important for us to play a console that sold the most units? To the consumer what difference will it make at the end of the day the Sony sells 1 million more units the Mircrosoft.
Its greater than that though. We have lost sight of what makes a damn good game. We now choose sides based on the color of the flag. How is 360 so different from PS3? Sure there are little differences here and there in online approaches and games lineups. Is it really that different though? Not really. I have chosen my first console to be a PS3, why? because I have wood for FinalFantasy. I really like the line up of Sony's and I don't mind spending 600$ on a console.
So why should it matter to you? Why should someone stop and tell me I am an idiot for purchasing a console for 200$ more. Why should someone tell a 360 owner they are an idiot because of less overall value when you put the whole of the parts together? Does that really matter.
Ill tell you what matters. Killing Bowser. That bastard stole my princess and I'm goin to his house and throwing him in some lava. Bowser is my enemy, not the 360 fans. Someday I may too own a 360 and play some great games. Maybe I will find a counterpart to my Sephiroth in the land of Microsoft. Today however, is not that day. I congratulate everyone who owns a 360 and loves it, and I am totally there for everyone waiting for their Wiis and PS3s. Bowsers coming, and it is not going to make one damn bit of difference which controller you hold when you beat him down.
I'd really like anyone reading this to actually think from now on before they type evil rants to each other. "What benefit am I getting from putting down another console?" The truth is, the less competition you have out there, the more monopolized the industry gets and the more you pay for getting less.
Celebrate video games, they're your favorite pasttime.
Brand loyalty does not justify rampant flaming of things. Thats like saying "I love staying at Best Western. FUK YOU HOLIDAY INN!!" Think about it, how many other industries are this intense? I would have to say the majority of it is teenagers in thier immaturity, but still. That probably surmounts the most flaming, young naivity.
Okay but answer this anyone who see this question.Do you think the most flame come from Microsoft fans or Sony.To be honest i think Microsoft because they always have something to say about Sony & its not in a nice way.Seem like Sony fans really dont say anything til these dumb azz say something out the way.Tell me how many Sony fan on Afterdawn invade the 360 forum just about none. But 360 fan will raid the PS3 forum alot & bring there negative views.Do get me wrong i dont hate Microsoft because i think Com is good for Sony.
Ex: This Dumb azz just made this post here yesterday this is proof where most of the flames come from.
i'll probably always prefer sony, they had a console out before xbox so i'll just keep buying their stuff. (mind i'm still not impressed with the whole november to march thing overnight) i have considered both but i'm happy with my original choice.

that is only recently though, i remember when 360 first came out this forum was alive with people bashing the 360, even though at the time we had not seen anything from sony apart from the specifications. but now that ps3 is close to coming out, sony fans have somethying else to talk about other than how crap the xbox 360 is.
PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.

Well... I do that a lot to pepsi lovers. Pepsi lovers are inferior to us who prefer Coca-Cola. It's science.

The fanboy thing started around the time of the Genesis vs SNES, if I recall correctly. Well I don't recall anything before that because I was too little.

I'd say Sony.
Ludikhris:
Take confort in knowing that most of this fanboy jibberish is contained within the smallest, hardcore gamer demographic. Beyond us, it's just general consumer preference at any given point in time. :-)

i am positive that the answer to that varies depending on the forum or site your on. naturally an xbox driven site would probably say, sony fans do the flaming which seems logical, and vice versa. here on AD and i've been here i think since january of 06 or so, i'd say most 'flaming' seemed to come from microsoft fans, but then again i wasn't here or really checking up on the 360 thread too often back when. so im sure it could go both ways. i really don't know if the 360 section ever had an individual who could match the likes of 'dnglbry,' who continually set course at sony and the ps3....i also think that sony and the ps3 had far greater amounts of negative rumour mills sprouting online than any other console. just depends on where you go for your info or where you talk about things. i haven't really seen any site that has successfully incorporated all consoles for discussion without having some arguments or problems arising.
i think the whole fanboy wars and bits comes from the competitive nature of society. the desire to have or be the best seems to be quite the trend these days. when it comes to consoles we all have our preferences somewhere, and no one likes being told their system is crap. i guess another way to look at it would be, my dinky doo is bigger than yours, my school is better than your school, our team is better than your team etc. people get so wrapped up into discussions/arguments that they start to take things PERSONALLY. so before you know it, you already dislike a system you never played...
