Hello.
I would like to know which software to use to rip a DVD to my hard drive, then watch if from there without having to burn it to a disk. I need to watch the movie with subtitles so is it possible to copy the DVD as it is to the harddrive, so I may be able to access the DVD menu as if it were still in the drive?

Thank you

wow that would be cool,
im guesing that every burning program does that to some degree. how to view such stored file is the question. and you would probably still need a burner to rip it with im guessin.
and with todays media prices so low , why not get dvd x copy and roll with it . just consider them portble temporary backup files.
play em on the computer or what ever

Just use DVD Decrypter to rip to your hard drive and then watch with a program of your choice

More precisely: To maintain menus & subs, use DVD Decrypter and its ISO reading mode -- it'll create a one single ISO image out of your DVD. Then use Daemon Tools in order to map this image as a virtual drive and use any of your usual DVD players -- WinDVD, PowerDVD, etc -- to watch the "disc".

Btw. Wrong forum room, this has absolutely nothing to do with DVD-R media quality.

If you want to save space, you could encode it in Divx. That would be much smaller and viewable using Divx player. I think you can keep almost every thing as well in this format.
An other option for you.

Thanks for all the info guys!
I'm watching the files off my hard drive alright now but they are a bit big. Anyone know how I can get them into divx format without losing the subtitles?

Suggest that you check our guides at http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/ -- subtitle ripping, etc are all explained there.
