Problem after bruning dvd from avi file..

I'm new to this. All this is first time.

Used camcorder(Canon Elura 100) (Panisonic DVC digital video cassette). Uploaded to PC into a large file. Used a program purchased on web called "AVS Video Editor", inputed the uploaded file and took scenes from the video file and moved to a "Storyboard" placing occasionally transition effects between "scenes". After putting it together using AVS Video Editor 3.3 I wrote an "Output video" in AVI format:
here is the stuff from the "Saved Movie File":
Video:DivX;Audio:MP3-192 kbps
Video Format: DivX5.0.5 codec
Frame Sixe w=720 H=480
Audio Format: MP3 192kbps, Freq: 44100 Hz Channels Stereo

Saved Movie File, "Use aspect correction. Correct frame size for optimal result., Output frame size: 720x536. Next I used "Sonic" DigitalMedia LE to Create a project to Burn a DVD on a DVD -R (TDK DVD-R 1-16X 4.7GB/GO

The problem is, the dvd plays on my tv for about 40 minutes or so then freezes at a point could not go on even with using skip (not yet thru dvd).

I went back and started at this point and created a 2nd DVD starting at the point it froze going forward.

It froze again at about 3 places but this time I could use the skip to get around it.
What causes this and how can I eliminate this.
