Ok, this is my problem.

I used to have a network setup like this;

Xbox 360 <--¦crossover cable¦--> Network card in my computer <--Usb ISDN modem--> Internet

I had no problem at all and i was playing on live for almost a year.

I recently got a new computer so the new setup was like this;

Xbox 360 <--¦crossover cable¦--> Network card in my new computer <--¦crossover cable¦--> Network card in my computer <--Usb ISDN modem--> Internet

Now i have set it up so my computer internet connection shares with my new computer (My old computer is the Host)

I can access the internet on both my pc's but when i turn my 360 on a little icon on my new computers system tray pops up saying "limited or no connectivity" and it says that my 360 has the ip '169.254.157.63' with the subnet mask '255.255.0.0' This is wrong of course because it should be 192.168.x.x, I know the reason it has this ip is becuase it ask the DHCP for one and doesnt get it so it is automatically assigned the ip '169.254.157.63'.

Ip config tells me this;

WINDOWS IP CONFIGURATION

ETHERNET ADAPTER LOCAL AREA CONNECTION 3:
-IP ADDRESS....192.168.0.188
-SUBNET MASK....255.255.255.0
-DEFUALT GATEWAY....192.168.0.1

ETHERNET ADAPTER LOCAL AREA CONNECTION 4
-AUTO CONFIGURATION IP ADDRESS....169.254.157.63
-SUBNET MASK....255.255.0.0
-DEFAULT GATEWAY....(BLANK)

I know loads of people have had the problem with 169.254.x.x but my situation seems to be reasonably unique with there being 2 wired computers...

If you can help or know of another site or post that might help please post back.

Cheers,

have u tried bridging?

try making the nic card thats connected to ur xbox obtain ip/DNS automatically, then in ur network connections, highlight both the connections (using the cursor) and right click, and go to bridge connections. that should work...

Three days of continously scouring the web for something that had such a simple answer, and finally it is a newbie who gives it to me me straight;

"Make a bridge dumbass."

It worked perfectly and its embarrassing that i hadnt thought of doing it.

Thanks for showing me what a network n00b i am.

That was driving me crazy Azrea,

Thanks
