Hi all,
I bought a 32" LCD tellie about 6 months ago. It's not HD Ready but I am hoping someone will be able to answer a few of my questions.
I saw screenshots of the back of a PS3 yesterday (http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/741/741368p1.html) and it has a HDMI output and the usual Sony AV Multi Out to your red, white and yellow. So, will I need a HD TV to be able to play PS3 games? Surely Sony can't expect people to fork out for a HD tellie and a PS3...
I am guessing that much like games now, if your tellie supports 60Hz then you can play games in Progressive scan mode, as opposed to the old 50Hz mode. So do they put 2 versions of the same game on one disc or is it a 'mode' thing? Is this what they'll be doing with PS3 games?
Also, if I played a Bluray movie on a PS3, will I be able to view it on my LCD?
Any thoughts or additional comments would be appreciated on the subject
thanks

yes, you can play ps3 on a sdtv. however, you'd getter a picture which is not that great. can you please link us to a model of your t.v. as it might be an edtv and support 480p which is a bit better than sdtv.

your t.v. is hd ready; it supports a maximum resolution of 1366x768. however, your t.v. doesnt have an hdmi input so you'll have to use component cables to get an hd picture

you're going to have to get a component a.k.a. rgb cable to get a 720p picture. you're going to have to get an official sony one since it has its own ouput slot. its the same as the ps2. this is waht it looks like:

hi Sukhvail,
Ok cool, I understand but that's not coming out of the HDMI output slot of the PS3 so how will it know to 'broadcast' to the tv in 720?

umm you go into the settings, then the display settings. you can then pick what type of connection you have and what output you want. this is all from this vid:
http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?fs=1&id=2185
Halfway down the page, it says "TGS 06 PS3 Crossbar Menu Demo" . that's the vid where i got this info from

you wont be able to get 720p with composite cables; you need to use component. trust me, you'll be able to use 720p with component cables

"Do you need a HD TV for the PS3?"
yes!!!, well its not the only tv that can be used, but it is the best option, but also can be expensive.
PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.
