Ive been around here for a while, and finally decided to make an account to ask a question.
I'm looking for a cheap, but effective way to play DVD backups.
I have a PS2 slim, without AR, or anything like that.
So far Swap Magic looks appealing but I'm not sure what would be the best method for the Slim specifically.
Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Alright, that is what I'm looking at now, but does the slide card viod the warrentee? If I understand correctly it does the same thing as the tape and tissue and costs about $7 right?
Id rather keep my warentee if it would only cost me a little bit more.

the only thing that works on booting games on a slim ps2 using swap magic is magic keys but if they are installed wrong then there goes your whole ps2.i have tape and tissue and it works.so its up to you

Im still looking around but not finding anything.
Thanks for the help.

Ack, but are there mod chips that don't viod warentees? I thought they all did.
And Id also like to mention that I have an EBgames warentee, would that be voided by removing the sticker? I might call and ask =P

Anyway, so far my plan is to get the newest Swap Magic,
and use the tape and tissue mod =P
I already have the means to burn it, and I just need to get some good media.
Any alternatives are still appreciated.

LOL , how many alternatives do you think there are , youve had em all : )
Get the swapmagic and the newer type metal keys and once you get its location correct by getting the disk to spin , take the tool back out and change the sticky underneath to a better quality double sided tape (carpet tape will do great) and replace it in the same position .
This keeps it from moving and you can close the lid in between changing games.
You really dont have any more options if you want to keep that warranty intact and tissue etc is crazy when a tool kit costs a quid or so from ebay.

LOL , they advertise them on buy now 1 dayers so that ebay dont remove em before they are sold .
Just list by "newly added" and you will see them , if thats way too hard for you then the magic keys can be bought for £2.50 ish when you buy your swapmagic disks from a multitude of online shops .
or email one of the dudes advertising the copied dvds most also do swapmagic kits and have lots of magic keys as they buy em in bags.
You just need to get more resourseful or get a grip of the ebay search mechanisms.
Ever wondered why they say you will need swapmagik to play this game of tiger woods 07 etc in thier game listing , its called an invitation to mail for info and a shoppers listing.
Ive even seen em up in the games section as swupdi*k.
For the sake of paying £2.50 and a little manual dexterity your gonna void your warranty the bits of tissue will get rammed into your little microswitch every time you close the lid , rendering it eventualy inoperative !!
It always makes me wonder why people end up crying about how they fecked up thier games machines with bodge jobs to save a couple of quid when a decent key set is less than the cost of the 10 blank dvds they usually already wasted whilst trying to burn the latest torrent iso , taking no notice of any threads on this forum.
Oh and by the way do NOT get the latest version of swapmagic coder or 3.8 its bugged to shite.
Its the 3.6 you want
Oh well youll live and learn the hard way ...................................maybe

Im not going to order off eBay, I'll just get if off the site.
problem is I'm unsure what versions support my version, as far as I can see the only ones that do say "supports all version" but that is pretty vague...

Supports all versions supports yours !!
Just take a look at piccy of the tool that they supply for rear switch , it should be metal and have a thin pinlike structure with a small plate with sticky pad on the top and not plastic , thats yours and ALL previous versions slimline
The one you have now linked to is what you need , put a disk in your PS2 , when you install the biggest tool the one at the back , do it after the other tools are in serted and do it without bending it .
Be careful and once it is in waggle it until the disk spins then mark slightly and carefully remove it , now change the crappy sticky tape they supply on the bottom of the pad with some GOOD double sided tape (carpet tape is ideal) and reinsert it carefully at your marked position and so that the disk spins.
Doing it the way above will ensure that the tackyness of the sticky pad is not lessened whilst you are trying to find the correct position (it has to touch a small microswitch inside that you cannot see hence its stealthy shape)
Once its installed you can also put some of that double sided tape over the top of the whole pad to ensure that it will not move when you close the lid , just leave the protective backing on the tape that faces up to save it collecting dust and muck.
Now just get on with it and next week maybe build a rocket : )
