Hi, I've just bought a brand new Pioneer DVR-104 and I just can't seem to get it to record anything onto a DVD-R or DVD-RW. It seemed to work fine when burning a normal cdr but when I try to burn a dvd it says there is a hardware error. In Nero it says "Communication failure" and then it aborts. I am trying this with a TDK DVD-RW (4.7gb single sided) disk and an unbranded general purpose DVD-R. Anyone else had this problem? What shall I do?
The Pioneer 104 does work fine, you do need the latest version of nero though 5.5 and check all cables. Try putting in a blank DVD R, go to > recorder > medium info if it shows up as a blank DVD R, then it works!
RAMA: Had the same problem, tried four different brands of DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs and it took appx. 5-10mins for the drive to recognize the discs. Finally I agreed that it has to be hardware issue (which sounds weird, since it burned CDs ok, read CDs and DVDs ok) and I'm now waiting to get a replacement drive.
I tried the drive with three different computers, with different ASPI drivers and burning tools, nothing helped. And the most important factor which made me sure that it was a technical h/w problem was the fact that I already said -- inserting blank DVD-R and the drive took almost 10mins to recognize the disc (lights to stop flashing).
It seems that since I finalized the disk (after playing around fustratedly trying to get the damn thing to work) I can now record some stuff onto the disk only with the windows xp built in burning software. However, when I finalise the disk and then try to read the files, windows tells me that the disk may be corrupted and it cannot read the disk. Man this is really starting to tick me off, I pay all this money for some mashed up drive!
