How do I make a copy of a DVD if the DVD that I want to copy has episodes? I have no problems making back up copies of most DVD's, but if the DVD has episodes, I can only get the first episode to download and burn.

DVD shrink. Free. Give it a try.
I have done tons of episodal discs with DVD Shrink, excellent results.

i would recommed dvd-decryptor (it's free) to rip the complete dvd to ur Hdd. Then fire up DVD2One (u need to buy this one but trust me, well worth it) it will ask you to point it to the dir with the dvd VOB files, it will then show you all the extra's that are in that dir (ie, extra languages, directors blag and so on) you can include or delete the features you want to be included, it will then shrink all you select down to fit on a dvd-r... FANTASTIC.
I have done a couple of discs and have noticed nothing in the way of image quality loss.
And it works beautifly on dvds with multiple episodes.

No, do not buy DVD2One when you have free software to do the same job. Try DVD Shrink for free first and if it does not meet your expectations or is not easy to use (Very easy) then go buy DVD2One.
With DVD2One you have to go through three steps:
1)dvddecrypt/smartripper
2)dvd2one
3)burn
With DVDshrink you only have to go through two steps.
1) DVD shrink
2) burn
Is anyone willing to do a test and show exactly how fast DVD2One is compared to DVDshrink (rip +compress). If I have some free time over the weekend, I'll do a disc and post the results. Maybe someone can do a similar experiment.

I can give you 95% estimate on time, as i recently did soprano's series 3.
Now disc's 2-4 are 8gigs when ripped and when you compress them via DVD2One, you select only the english language and keep the rest... to do this compression it took me 32min... as for the ripping with dvd-decryptor add another 12 min..
so thats a total of about 44min disc to resize..
how fast is yours :)

your numbers are meaningless as your system is obviously diff than mine. Do a rip/compress with DVD Shrink and see what the numbers are. 44 minutes is nothing to brag about.

Anyway, your ripping is actually quite slow overseas. 12mins? You should be able to rip a DVD in around 6mins with a DVD ROM or writer (hacked firmware). It is the compression that depends on your system. On average, compression at 5% takes 12mins on my computer, 10% around 15mins, 25& around 30mins, 35% around 40mins.

Also make sure your DVD-ROM is set to DMA mode. I was ripping for a month before it dawned on me to check that out. After making the change my ripping is 4 times faster.

No bitch fight here. I just do not see the logic behind advising someone to plunk down money for DVD2One when you can do the job free with dvdshrink.
I do have the soprano box sets and will do a comparison over the weekend with one of the discs he specified and see what happens...
Yeah that 12 min for decrypt had me puzzled. But he said it was 8 gigs for the disc. I remember a recent rip which was all of five minutes with DVD Shrink (no compression) but was not quite sure how big the dvd was.

I'm on my second portion of humble pie...
Anyhoo
Here are the results.
DVD Shrink vs DVD2one/Dvd Decrypter
Shrink took 53 minutes and five seconds to decrypt and shrink Sopranos season 2 disc 2 (7.8 gigs/level 10 compression))
Dvd decrypter took 16 minutes adn 4 seconds to decrypt the disc
DVD2One took 28 minutes and five seconds to compress.
For a total of 44 minutes and 9 seconds.
I did a single layer to see how fast DVDshrink rips. It took 5 minutes 35 seconds to rip "The Sting"
DVD decrypter took five minutes 15 seconds.
Checking the two compressions I did not see any discernable difference between the quality of compressions between DVD2ONE and DVDshrink.
My opinions:
Although DVD2ONE is faster I did not notice any quality differences over DVD shrink. Considering that DVD Shrink is freeware I would suggest this over DVD2One for the casual back up. If you need to save time and do a whole lot of discs then DVD2ONE would probably be the way to go.

BigLad: To set DMA in Windows XP, get to Device Manager: Right-Click on My Computer, click on Properties, or Start->Settings->Control Panel->System->Device Manager. Find the devices IDE ATA/Atapi controllers, click on the plus sign. Then go into both Primary and Secondary Channels, one at a time, in each one right click, select Properties, click on Advanced settings, change each channel to DMA (2 per channel), total 4.
If you're not running XP, almost the same, get into device manager but here you're going to the properties of the drives themselves, not the IDE channels.

dvd shrink allows full control over reauthoring of disc. DVD2One only allows removal of extras and subs..
