I put in my backup, started up and got to the screen where it asks if you want to create a save profile on the hard drive. i click yes (select device), click on my hard drive which has 12 GB free space, and it tells me not enough space available.

Nope, no problem here. I can verify that EVERY NTSC game can be backed up and played with no problems. If you have a problem, it's either in the image you got or the burn process.
