I Burned Mortal kombat armageddon to a Verbatim lightscribe 16x (of course i burned it to 8x) and use my swap magic coder 3.8 to load it and it ran like its original.

Questions- How long can i play my backups with these disks (each day or week)
How often do I have to clean my laser with a Q-tip and alcohol?
What is an alternative when my laser dies?

Slim PS2 77001a
Swap Magic Coder 3.8
PVR-802w laser
Verbatim Lightscribe 16x DVD+R

For as long as they work. Pretty much they go bad the same as any other DVD, pretty much with scratches and use.

You pretty much only need to clean the laser if you are getting read errors or other problems caused by the laser. It's fairly common with older systems to get read errors and it just needs cleaned out like you said. But, you don't need to do it very often.

You could always by a replacement laser online. They have disassemble guides online on how to replace the laser and clean the inside of the ps2 and stuff. Doing it yourself will void the warranty though, and if you do it wrong, you could break a cable or something, so just be careful.

If you're worried about the laser dying and you have an older Fat PS2 pick up a Hard Drive and network adapter d/l Hdloader and have fun :)

you can go with USBExtreme and a External Hard Drive but it's not compatible with as many games as the internal/Hdloader combo is..

Unless it has been improved? I dunno.
Here is a site that lists what games work and what don't

They do make a PS2 case for a Slim line that's called HD Combo (I believe) and it is so you can put an internal Hard drive into a PS2

but all you need is USBExtreme and a External HD if you want to go that route

Yeah but I read from the USBextreme website that is only compatible with 95% of games and i don't want to go through getting a new game and saving it onto the hard drive a later finding out that it wo'nt work

BTW-I HAVE a scph 77001a and the hd combo are for versions 12+13, not 14+15, which is the one I have
