Looks original to me.
There doesn't seem to be any loose wires and all the solder points look good.
It came with firmware v1.68, very soon after I updated to v1.82 without any prolems.
Anyway, I bought a 75001 ps2 modded with that chip and had absolutely no problems for about 4-5 months until now.
The problem: It suddenly won't load any copied ps2 games. This was not right after a firmware upgrade or anything, as i was running it on v1.82 for a few months now. When attempting to load a ps2 game it comes up with the red screen telling you to insert a ps or ps2 format disk.
Now the unusual symptoms:
It doesn't show the playstation 2 writing with the matrix logo and the version under it anymore, from power on it shows the big matrix logo then the blue cloudy screen with the sony computer entertainment writing, then the red screen if a copied ps or ps2 game is inside.
It can play copied ps1 games if foced into ps1 mode (by holding down circle on boot) without any problems.
It can play dvd movies automatically, no problems there.
It cannot "fast boot" anymore.
If selected in the infinity configuration menu (or if "select" is held on boot), it will simply hang at the big matrix logo whether a disc is in it or not, or whether the lid is up or not.
The chip can still be disabled by holding down start until the writing "disabled" appears.
The big matrix logo doesn't show up and the chip is disabled if I hold reset/power for 2-3 seconds from standby (red light). And as such I can't go to the force firmware update thing, if it is indeed corrupted firmware. The chip gets enabled again after going to standby.
The firmware cannot be updated past v1.82, that is, i've tried updating to v1.88 and v1.91 but when it gets to the update screen it shows v1.82 instead.
It can be downgraded back to v1.68 however (and i assume v1.75 also). Changing firmware does absolutely nothing to remedy any of the issues stated.
I am not able to install infinity mager from the cd as it hangs at a black screen when forced to boot in ps1 mode (or else it would go to the red screen).
Well that's about it. I have searched for quite a while without finding anyone with a similar problem, part of, but not quite like mine.
The only thing i can think of is that the chip got damaged somehow, or it is a convincing clone. Also, is there any other way to force flash the firmware? like a cd that can clear/reset the chip and then reload whatever firmware on it? Any insight or help on this problem would be appreciated.
I have the exact same problem down to ever little detail. I just installed the chip and its acting 100% like what you said. Im going to keep look into it and if I find anything ill let you know. Any other help would also be greatly appreciated.
I have ps2 75000 and modded with matrix infinity 1.68 by myself and the laser burns with only 4 hours game play and I fixed it with the super 7 k-15 (china modchip) and bought the new laser and the laser melt down again after a few months. so I think that your laser is already dead if you install the matrix infinity in the ps2 75001 without any laser fix because this version requires the laser fix. But not the neo fix because it won't work on my version 75000 I think it won't work on 75001 too.
Sorry for bad english because I'm Thai but I really want to help.
If you want to make sure that your laser burns up or not try your original game (any game that usually take a long time loading such as devil may cry )without the chip installed and any fix in it.This will make 100% sure that the laser is still fine or not.
Im pretty sure thats it because now the psx game wont even load. Thanks for the input, ill have to look more into the laser fix and order a new drive if its bad(which im almost sure is the case now)
I'm pretty sure it's not the laser as backup psx games work when forced in ps1 mode and backup dvd movies play flawlessly. When the mod chip is disabled it functions like a healthy unmodified ps2, no problems there.
Oh, and i've come to realise that it doesn't even load original ps2 games when the chip is active. I tried the ps2 online start-up disc (4.0) when the chip is active and the red screen comes up, when I disable the chip and it works normally. Basically no form of ps2 disc (cd or dvd, original or backup) work when the chip is active.
One comment I saw while looking for a solution was that a wire to the drive (A,B,G,H,I) my have a problem. I don't see why it would suddenly act up though (worked perfectly for months), unless it was a broken wire, which it isn't, and is also dust free.
Still stumped.
I sent it for repair, i'll report on how that goes.
Yes the psx games will work even the laser burns up in the version 75001 and also the movies will run well because the dvd movies use less laser than the ps2 dvd games even some original dvd games use less laser than the others such as the game is about or under 2.50 gigabytes will loads up even the laser burns up and the psx games is using the laser in cd mode not the dvd mode. And..... have you already try the original games which is in full dvd? (more than 4 gigabytes) without the modchip and laser fix in it?
Oh?I forget something You already send it to repair Don't forget to tell the mechanic to install the laser fix. Okay.. bye
having same problem as well, alike Funylilmn, i just recently installed inifinity chip. All originals work fine for me, been playing God of War (8+Gb)for hours at a time the last two weeks and haven't had any problems with my laser. hope to get this get figured out
I changed the motherboard and all is now well. The only thing I am certain of is that it was not the laser as i'm currently using the same one without any issues.
The cause for the motherboard failure remains unknown to me.
