Hello,

I am buying an upconvert DVD player but my lcd tv doesn't have either an HDMI or DVI connection. Will the DVD player upconvert using a component connection?

Thank you.

I think it depends on the player. I have an upconverting player and, even though 1080i can be carried through component, the player only upconverts through HDMI. Go figure!

I have an oppo upconversion; it will only upconvert through the DVI, not the component...they're quite specific about it in the instructions. I guess it depends on the player...Samsung and LG also require connections through HDMI.

I have a Phillips and a Panasonic, both upconverting, both requiring HDMI connections according to the instructions. I've never tried connecting through the components.

That Zenith did upconvert through the componet and I hear that a samsung did the same, but I hear they were poor. I had the Zenith & took it back for the Sony.

Does Sony have a player that upconverts thru component?

No, I found out after I ordered the Zenith that it had a firmware issue, so I never opened the box. The Sony only converts through HDMI.

The original poster was looking for a player that upconverts thru component.

The Zenith's DVI performance was suspect at best. It had very good reviews when upconverting thru component. The original firmware was downloadable on the internet and units with later FW's could be restored to enable component upconversion.
