Hi, I need some help going online with the Slimline PS2. I was told when I first got it that all I'd need to do to go online would be to put my broadband wire into the port on the PS2, and I'd be able to go online.

However, when i try to go online, I get a message saying that I need a Network Configuration file and a network access disc. I didn't get a disc with my PS2, so will I need to get one, or is there another way to get online (I'm guessing that there is since I haven't seen very many network discs for sale).

Thanks

EDIT: I've searched through the stuff I recieved with the PS2, and i have a Network Access code if that helps. I'm desperete to go online, so please help me out.

Magnus D

all i done with mine is i connected it to the pc im on now. loaded up tony hawks 3 and gone in the network section and changed the settings. resetted the ps2 and tried to get online with the ps2 which eventually worked.

also if say you had a xploder disk with broadband (i have V5.1) you can set up the config there aswell

So what settings do I change on the PC or PS2 to get online then. Could you maybe guide me through it since I'm new to this sort of thing. And do I need to plug in my network router cable or the cable I plug intothe modem (or can it be either if it's done in different ways).

And can the same thing that you do with the Xploder be done with the Action Replay Max (since it has the option to go online to update the codelist).

i have my ps2 connected to my pc which then goes to the router.

go to your network connections and look at the connection thats going to be used for the ps2. it should be disconnected (even if its turned on at the main menu)

the connection will only connect when its actually been used so. first of all load up a game that requires the internet such as tony hawks. the action reply should work aswell if it has online features.

get to your network config on the game/AR disk and see if your pc is getting a connection to the ps2. (if there is no red cross then its connected) if you have 2 connections on your pc like one being your internet and one being for the ps2 you should highlight both connections and then bridge them.

if the connection has a red cross then you may need to apply an IP and other settings to the ps2. so find some option that allows you to change these settings. if there is an auto function you can try using that. it should now save to the mem card. if this is the case restart your ps2 and see if you get a connection.

You need to setup a network configuration. You can do that will one of those network startup disks that you cant find or do it with a game that is capable of making one. Such games that I know of are Ratchet and clank: UYA, Ratchet Deadlocked, and Tony hawks american wasteland.

Doesnt expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected and therefore mean youre expecting the expected which was the unexpected until you expected it?

I was able to connect when I used the Action Replay Max, but when I tried to play a game I still got the message about the network Configuration file.

I'm having another problem now though. I've configured a Network Configuration file using one of my games. However, when I try to connect, I get a error message about the DNAS Id, or my PS2 just crashes.
Is this anything to do with the PS2 modchip, as i have the matrix Infitity chip installed on my PS2. I've tried connecting on a regular game (not a backup) and I still get this error message, and I get this problem on backup games as well.

What can I do about this?

I don't think it's the Modchip because I have the Matrix Infinity one, and it's not supposed to be detected when you go online with the PS2.

when your going through the configuration make sure you input the right data for everything. if all else fails it very well could be the chip.

but i wouldn't know im new to all this myself and trying to get this FTP working is seriously giving me brain damage from thinking about it almost 24 hours lol

anyways good luck

also if you have to find what ip your ps2 has you go on your pc click start then run. type in cmd if your on win XP. then type in netstat
this will show all connections on your pc. if you close all webbrowsers and say msn and other apps that require the internet it will point out which is your ps2. but make sure the ps2 is actually on to the point were it connects
