Ok so, first of all, sorry for such a long post, but I've tried to fix this myself before coming here and I've done a lot of different things, so for clarity I've tried to include them all in this post.
Well, recently I got cable internet right. Previously I was using DSL and had two computers networked via ICS (no router/switch/hub) just a LAN with a CAT5 cable going from client to guest pc. Well, with the way I had it setup at that time, i could unplug the CAT5 cable from the guest pc into my PS2 (slim line) and go online to play without any problems.
This brings me to the problem at hand. I am now on th cable internet and when i setup the PS2 to detect IP and DNS and all that automatically, it just sits there at the connection test. Doesn't even timeout, as far as I've tried. The NIC I am using to go to the client computer from the cable modem is a VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter and the one running with the CAT5 to the playstation is also in the back of the client computer and that card is a Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter (LNE100TX v4). I get internet no problems, as you can tell I am here posting.
I know the Linksys card isn't dead because it was working with my DSL. I know I'm allowed by my ISP to do this, they just won't offer up any support for it due to the playstation not being hardware that they support.
When I go online with the ps2 it "connects to network....." just fine then goes to the DNAS screen. Sits at the DNAS screen for a while then I get both of these errors (which one depends on what I do to my Linksys card to try and get my PS2 to work online)
"DNAS Error (-611) A network error has occurred." Please double-check your network connection and/or network configuration.
and then there is this one
"DNAS Error (-612) A network error has occurred." Please double-check your network connection and/or network configuration
When I go into cmd and type ipconfig /all it shows me 4 DNS servers for my VIA Rhine II adapter. Then I look on my ISP's site and they show me two and only two, different DNS servers. So these DNS errors i'm getting at the DNAS Authentication screen when trying to go online on my PS2 (slim line) are really mesing me up because I don't know where to begin to attempting fixing it. Yes, I know buying a router would fix it all, I just simply can't afford it for a little while and in the meantime I wish to continue playing online.
For the record my ISP is Cogeco Cable located in Hamilton Ontario, Canada. I am allowed 3 computers/IP's to my package so like I said before, I know they allow me to do this. My VIA Rhine II whichg runs the modem to the computer, needs to obtain ip info and dns info and such automatically, correct? Because it gives me a subnet mask of 255.255.252.0 when automatically obtained. So what about the Linksys card going from pc to ps2 (slim line) with the CAT5 crossover cable? When I set it's ip manually the subnet mask goes to 255.255.0.0 and I still get the all the DNS errors during the DNAS Authentication on the PS2 regardless of the IP i set the linksys card to use.
-Deperate in need of a resolution.
It's not that I don't know what you're talking about. It's more like I just don't care :P
