This is a long story but bear with me. I wonder if someone can actually help me with this. I have two hard drives. One is a Maxtor and one is the original sony brand ps2 hdd. For the last two weeks I have been playing them like always, and so I was going to demonstrate to a friend today how to take games from the computer and dump them onto the drive for the ps2. So I took my maxtor drive out and hooked it up to my computer in preparation but then suddenly out of the clear blue, ps2 handiness tells me that it cannot detect any ps2 drives. Peculiar. So I try again, and it fails. I then pick the sony brand hdd and hook it in but that one does work. Then I hook the maxtor into the ps2 and I get this cursed screen that tells me the whole thing needs to be reformatted. Unfortunately, I formatted it, and then it said there are no games on the drive. Great, so I then restart the machine but then it tells me to format yet again. This goes on and on. So I pick up the sony drive, which I know had games on it, and put it in the ps2 to see if that at least still works but then that one needed to be formatted. So I did it with that one too, but came to the same result, of just repeatedly having to reformat. I have used the dvd and cd versions of hdadvance and keep getting the same result. So what does this mean? Can I never use hdadvance again? Are both hard drives screwed up now? Why do they need to keep being reformatted? Why is it that half the time the ps2 cannot find the hdd hardware anyway? Do I need a new network adapter? Ps2? New copy of hdadvance? New hdd's? This makes absolutely zero sense. By the way, I can't even hook them into my computer anymore because they computer won't even acknowledge them. I refuse to believe that hdadvance can fry a 30 gb and 60gb hdd because that is ridiculous. If so, no one should ever buy their crap ever again. Seriously, I'm stuck in this loop of reformatting. And when it do, it still says that I have free space on the hard drive in the back. Oh, and get this, I will take a game and burn it directly onto the hdd with the laser, and it will not show up in the list afterwards yet the remaining memory will decrease. Try figuring that one out.
