Hi
I just joined this forum.

I want to capture from a VHS tape to my hard drive (80 GB).
I want to capture with the best quality video.
I use NeroVision Express 3 and click on the "capture template" drop down box and choose "AVI."

After the capture is completed, I am disappointed to find that it recorded into my hard drive as Super Long Play, not Standard Play.

What do I do to make the AVI capture uncompressed, with the file size
the same size as a standard DVD (4.38 GB)? If the size is larger, I can use a double layer disk as my DVD burner can support this.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. My capture card is ATI ALL-in-Wonder 9200 lindyrudy

You should just use the ATI MMC software that comes with your ATI AIW. It is very good and has many options on capture modes (use MMC 9 if possible). Uncompressed AVI would produce a very large file size (DV AVI is 25GB for 60 min of video). MPEG2 is the format that is used for DVDs and standard quality (SP) would produce the 4.3GB for 2 hours file size. You can even get better video though (1 hour is 4.3GB) but since it's from a VHS tape the end result will be unnoticable.

Thanks for replying, Chroma45.

I looked at the ATI MMC files but couldn't find the "options on capture modes." How do I access these options?

Any help appreciated.

You'll see down at the bottom there is a picture of a check mark inside of a square. This is the settings button, now choose the Personal Video Recorder tab. You will see a few presets by ATI already showing. You can click on the Map Preset button and choose another one also. There are many already made by ATI or you can make your own. The ATI MMC software for capturing is great because it has many, many options but is a bit buggy unfortunately.
