How Do I Get Online With My Xbox360 For Xbox Live??

i was just wondering what i need to do to get my xbox 360
online so i can use xbox live, as i thought i could just
attach the cable from my modem to the console...
i was also wondering what kind of things you need microsoft points to download, be it new levels, characters etc & how you get points..
i would really appreciate it if anyone could help me on this as ive just got a new 360 premium pack with 1 months trial of xbox live gold & want to start playing my games online..

well if i understand right all you need to do is attach the ehternet cables that comes with the premium pack into an ethernet port on ur computer. Then just sign up with a microsoft passport (or some silly shit like that ) u can use ur msn account if u have one. Also to get microsoft points i think they are bought via credit card although u might be wrong.

hmmmm, ok thanks..
that's where i got confused, i didn't know whether to attach the cables to the pc or to the modem..
suppose ill give it a try both ways..
do you know how to open the 360 so i can flash my bios & be able to play backup games?
any help is appreciated mate, thanks
