Try some good media and slow down your burning speed.

You need to remove your serial number too. People can steal it.

According to your log:

1)Nero API version: 6.6.0.13

Nero is a bit old, you should update to the best version of nero6(free), version 6.6.0.18.

Write down your Nero serial# and then uninstall version 6.6.0.13 from your system using the general cleantool found here:

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html

Next, download and install version 6.6.0.18 from the links provided, re-enter the serial# and you're good to go.

nero version 6.6.0.18 updates:
Package 1
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Ner....0.18_no_yt.exe

Package 2
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

2)Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 640c> Version: ES04

Your burner's firmware is a bit behind, you should update to the current version JS04. The update should contain added media support which will help the burner recognizing your media and burn to it correctly. Download and run the file.

Get the update\download here (version JS04)
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2034

2)DiskPeripheral : WDC WD400BB-23FJA0 13.0 iteraid Port 2 ID 2 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : WDC WD3000JS-00PDB0 nvata Port 5 ID 2 DMA: Off

Here your western digital hard drives show as having DMA mode off and most likely operating in the slower PIO mode. PIO mode is too slow and can cause burn failures, enable DMA mode for these devices. Here's a guide if needed;

enable DMA guide
http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm

4)Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)

This suggests that the burner had a problem with writing to the media you're using. The firmware update I suggested you get should solve this issue, but if it doesn't, try using another brand of media like Verbatim or check with the drives manufacturer's site to see if they provide a media compatibility list.

5)Burn process started at 16x (22,160 KB/s)

16X might be a bit fast, especially if using poor quality media. Slow it down to 4x or 1/2 the rated speed of the media.

Give these suggestions a try and I'm sure you'll be burning in no time:)

Cheers.

Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 640c> Version: ES04

That's an old firmware version, especially using 16x speed media. Here's a site for the latest JSO4 firmware version-but that is pretty old as well.

Recorder: HP DVD Writer 640c, Media type: DVD+R
(Medium in drive: unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R DL.)

It doesn't recognize your media-firmware issue. Here's where you can get JSO4:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2034

Download it to your harddrive-remember where it goes, open up the zip folder and follow directions carefully. Close out all programs, make sure no disc is in the drive, and no storms or other Acts of god to disrupt the power..Do not stop during the flashing process. A bad flash can wipe out a drive.

Last address to be written: 2286143 (508:01.68, 4465MB)

That's burning very close to the outer edge. Reduce it to 4300-4360 mbs-depending on the quality of your blank media.

Open up dvd shrink/edit/preferences- Click on dvd-5/scroll till custom/enter 4300/OK. That target will stay there. If you're using quality media-up that target to 4360

DiskPeripheral : WDC WD400BB-23FJA0 13.0 iteraid Port 2 ID 2 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : WDC WD3000JS-00PDB0 nvata Port 5 ID 2 DMA: Off

Your dmas are in pio mode. Here's a guide to uninstall the controller,reboot-1 controller at a time:

http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/dvdguide005.html

Burn process failed at 16x (22,160 KB/s)

Way too fast, especially for an HP drive, LOL. Keep it at 4x,maybe even 8x-depending on quality media.

What is the brand name/format/and speed rate of your blank media? Use Nero infotool to find the MID code.

Media quality is critical. Poor quality media has to be burned slower, reduced backup target size, and still have issues trying to burn it.

1) Edit out your serial # beginning:
1A23-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

2) Get those dma's back to DMA or UDMA-or either of those-if available.

3) Try the firmware update.

4) If those blanks don't burn, get some verbatim or taiyo yuden.

5) Reduce that backup target size.

6) Burner quality: I also have the HP 640c lightscribe and very poor backups. Too many coasters using taiyo yuden and hitachi media. Too many crc errors on the few backups I burned.Low stand alone compatability rate. I was no fan of HP burners, and I did not expect much from mine when it came bundled with my pc. At least she does my ripping and lightscribing. Even the LS covers were poor. I had to download an extra enhancement program to fix that issue.

After the encoding, shrink saves those files in a temp folder-unless you created a special folder in the backup options.Just open up shrink, open files, and look for it.

ok, I have updated Nero, and made sure the dma is set to automatic detection (which it was already), and the burning speed is 4x. but I cant update the recorder

I got a white page when I went to that fw site that I linked. Try this one for hp:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...item=dv-31700-1

This may say HP 640i,but should be something there that'll auto-detect your 640c burner and the JS04 fw version.
