Nero video capture device won't initialize

There's something with this damn Nero. I bought a cheap video capture card. It worked great with Nero Vision, I was going to transfer movie files from my camcorder, burn to dvd.
So it went through some initialization, it checked out the settings, everything worked out fine. But then I had to screw with the settings, trying to get a little higher resolution. Once I did that, it said "failed to initialize the capture device. please check the device settings"
Problem is, I can't change the device settings. It won't let me, because the boxes are grayed out. It is stuck there and I tried everything, tried uninstalling, reinstalling, tried uninstalling the video card drivers and reinstalling, everything.
