I myself have a ps2 and magic 3.1 chip, and no problems with it ever... however my girlfriend's brother wants to get a mod chip for his ps2, however the deal is that he has final fantasy 11 (legit btw) and the hard drive, and I've read in places that final fantasy 11 picks up if your ps2 has a mod chip, and if so, it will automatically lock out your ff11 number. Is this the case? If so, is there any solutions to this problem? Or if its not the case, whats the best mod chip with least soldering out nowadays? He has the scph-30001 R model, which i believe is the v4/5 or maybe it was 5/6... but still, im sure that info will help. Thank you in advance for oyur help.

easy solution, just get a mod chip that can be disabled.
If he has a hard drive then a DMS4 Pro SE will be the best mod chip for him. Plus it is one of the best out there. It has hard drive support and other features geared towards a hard drive.

If it is an original copy like you say, then he can test it with the chip on. If it doesn't work then he can just disable the chip when he plays that game. Make sure you check the chips and see which models it is compatible with, you will need to know if it is a V4 or a V5/6 first. I would not attempt to install any chip without very good soldering skills. Although DMS does make the EZI Pro which is solderless. That is an option but must be installed with care as many people have broken them trying to install them.

And make sure that if he does get a DMS4 chip it is the PRO and not the LITE. The LITE doesn't have the hard drive support and features he will need.
