I have a fat PS2 with flip top and swap magic .. What works better having an external hard drive via usb or putting one inside the PS2 with the adapter and if u use an external 200gb does it need some kind of patching.

The internal will be faster and work better.
USB is ok but the load times will be about the same as if you were
playing from a disc.

You will need USB Extreme for the external HDD
You will need HD Advanced/HD Loader for the internal
or a DMS4 Pro mod chip installed which will work with either one.

make sure you check a PS2 hard drive compatibility chart before
you go out and buy one. And i figure you know that it needs to be an IDE style and not an SATA hard drive.
