Hello all,

I have been studying this forum for hours and I keep getting confused everytime I think I just figured it out... so here goes:

I have:
*PS2 V7 (PAL, with NO chip, slide card, or any other modification)
*Network adaptor
*Harddisk, maxtor(PS2 compatible)

I'd like:
*To be able to transfer my backup games from my laptop PC to PS2 harddisk while the harddisk is in the PS2.

Q1. What do I need to get of software as boot-cd? I can see that there is both a boot-cd called HDadvance and a HD-loader but also something called swap-magic (Dan168 mentioned them all in his great guide). But what is the righ for me with a none-modified PS2?

Q2. What do I need of software for the PC to connect to the PS2 with the harddisk installed? Where can I download such software?

Q3. Will I be able to transfer and play both PAL and NTSC backup games to my PS2 (PAL PS2 that is)?

Hope to hear from a clever person in here soon - since I myself am lost in all this information on the subject.
BEST REGARDS and many thanks:
MADKRP

Q1) Just get HDAdvance or HDLoader. Just ensure whichever you get, that it is the original and not a copy.

Q2) To connect the PS2 HD to the computer to install games, you need to put your PS2 HD into the computer and have it connected via an IDE cable. You then download a program called HDl_Dumb which is simple. Just select the .iso of the game, and hit install.

Q3) Yup, but carefull to ensure your TV plays back NTSC games. I've installed a few NTSC games on my PS2 with no problems.

Hope that helps

great! Thanks Yoclick !!!!!! - that helps me a lot!

To your answer, to my Q2 question:
Is it not also possible to transfer games to the PS2 from my laptop PC (all i've got) via a patched network cable? Think I've read that somewhere...but can't find that site again :/

Anyone know of this?

they do make PS2 FTP servers and such, so yes you could transfer from your PC or Laptop either with a CAT5 Crossover ethernet cable
Or buy setting up a wireless network with a wireless router and wireless gaming adapter (PC)
or if you have wireless in the laptop just the gaming adapter
the wireless is very nice but also much more expensive.

just look there at the FTP tutorials and then you can search more on your own for more info.

Hard Drive Enclosure would work...

Hook your Hard Drive to your Lap Top Via USB and you'll be good to go using Winhiip

Thanks for answers again!

Steimy: If I for instance use HD_DUMB then I wouldn't need any other software than: HD_DUMB on my PC and HDAdvance 3.0 DVD/CD to run on my PC? I'm asking 'cause I keep seeing something about "Memory Card exploit" and "elfs" everywhere, and frankly I don't really get what that is... :/

tmfloria: If I could avoid buying that It would make it cheaper ;0)

Are you guys sure he can install games via this method? I've got a wireless setup and can only use it to put files (like movies) onto the hard drive. I dont "think" you can install games via a network but i maybe wrong.

Hey,

what Yoclick is asking in his last post is actually the essence of my doubt right now!!

Will I be able to transfer games through a patched network cable to the harddisc in the PS2? Anyone know?

You can but it's still easier via Winhiip
either installing the HD into your PC or using a IDE to USB Cable OR HD Enclosure

Tmfloria: Thanks for the answer.
Since I only have a laptop, then the first alternative might be hard ;) From the two other alternatives, buying a IDE to USB cable sounds the cheapest... Think I'm ready to go for this project now! Thanks for all your help guys! VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!

The memory card exploits are what people are using to run the elf files from the ps2 via a menu usually. this allows people to access their harddrives via FTP, or using hdl_server or dump, or whatever programs of that type.
it is also a very, very slow way of putting games onto your harddrive, with no guarntee that you will actually be able to play them.

Since you do not have an action replay max duo evo, or another device that you could easily run elfs from, they were telling you the best and easist way of putting the game onto your harddrive.

Just keep checking the different sections of this forum, mainly the ps2 softboot section, you'll find the info you are looking for.
