I have some Verbatim DVD-R's and a Pioneer DVR-111D burner, what speed should I be burning video files with?

Half the DVD rated speed. No slower then 4x. If they are 4x and 8x burn at 4x if they are rated 16x burn at 8x.

Of course some will say it would be ok to burn at the rated speed since they are Verbatim but in my opinion it is better to be safe then sorry. The faster you burn the more chance of getting data read errors.

Ah cool thats the speed I have been using so far. When would I ever burn at full speed, when just burning data?

you should be ok burrning data at the rated speed. Even tho I still will slow the burn down a little. Maybe burn at 12x on 16x media when burrning a DVD data disc. I hardly ever go full rated speed.

Your burner will easily burn Verbatim 16X -R discs at their rated speed with excellent results. Not everyone chooses to burn at slower speeds.

Here's a transfer rate test, Pioneer 111D with Mitsubishi Chemical MCC 03RG20 (Verbatim).

For the testing crowd here's some numbers:

Write Speed: 16x (CAV)

Write Time: 6m:04s

PI-8 errors Average/Sec: 1.58

PI-1 failures (PIF) Avg/Sec: 0.01

Low PI and PIF errors on this disc make this an excellent result. Recommended!

Nothing will be gained, and actually you may get worse results by burning this media at a slower speed.

You can read about your burner and find out which media is the best match for it here.
