Hey, this forum has been awesome for me so far in my burning challenges and i have done a few movies that play great in my player.. all of my movies have been downloaded as avis, then converted with Vso DivX to dvd (works fast and great)
then i burn the remaining file with dvd santa
ONE movie has not worked and i need help figuring out how to make it work!!!! My sony home dvd player recognizes the disc as a dvd, but an error message appears saying 'area perimeter prohibits play' or something Very similar along those lines.. i cant figure out how to fix this with my existing software.. i hope someone can help me out!
thanks
Sony players can be a bit picky. I have never used DVD Santa and don't know how good it is. You are using ConvertX though, so why don't you just burn with that? I use VSO's CopyToDVD and like that a lot.
Another trick I use is to run the completed DVD compliant files through DVD Shrink. That lets me adjust the size and if Shrink will handle the files then it is a pretty sure thing that they will play properly.
The real cure is to booktype your DVDs which means you would have to use a program capable of that, DVD+R media and have a burner capable of booktyping.
Booktyping a DVD tells the player to play the DVD as if it were a DVD-ROM which is more compatable.
It does this by writing a few extra bits of info during the lead-in portion of the burn.
The reason it is called booktyping is because the specification for each type or format of DVD (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM (but not DVD+R), etc) are written down in a separate book for each type.
thanks for your prmopt reply.. i have now opened my file, jet li's fearless, in my dvdshrink.. but how will i change the file so it fits the area perimeters to play on my dvd player?
thanks again
I agree with fasfrank, that you should booktype to dvd rom. Since you can only booktype +R, +RW, and +R DL discs, your burner has to be able to burn these. You didn't mention what kind of blanks you use.
