elo everyone i have a modded xbox 360 which was working fine up to last night
it stoped readin my games after about 10 mins of playing and then comes up with the msg 'cannot read disc clean with soft cloth bla bla''
can any1 help me i have striped the console and cleaned the lens and also searched on google and had no joy.
seems to do it on
fifa 07
sometimes on pgr3
but havnt managed to get it to do it on fight night 3 boxing.

right not had any help yet but been doing futher investigation.
cant get it to do it on the fight night 3 game and that is on verbatim media game plays fine been playin it for a good hour or so.
fifa 07 is on rivision media used to last a couple of hours know lasts 10 mins
pgr3 is on no make media and lasts around an hour.
could this be that my drive was flashed with older sofware and there is a newer vertion out or something will any1 halp me.

try burning the games to the Verbatim media. That should solve your problem afaik.

i get someone els to do them for me i dont have all the equipment for the fifa 07 he said he did them at 2.4. so should i try all my games on the media that it worked on.

Use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media. Don't burn at 2.4x, that is far too slow. Burn at 4x to 8x. That should fix your probelm.

ok i will give it a go but why will it only let me play the fifa game for like 10 mins were used to let me play for ages why does it get shorter.

Probably cos you used bad media, and the disk is deteriating.

write ripper i will give it a go you have been the mosty helpful well you have been the only person that has helped cant belive i have striped my xbox for no reason if that is the answer.

Well, stripping your Xbox was a tad extreme ;-)
And BTW i'm not usually in these forums, not my area (Xbox/consoles); but some of the problems in here are down to dvd related issues, which is my area ;-)
God knows where all the console people are :P
Also, how long have you had these disks? Like how long has the game been burnt onto it for?

Well most xbox problems like that, if it turns out to be the xbox, then they are easy, cheap to fix. But i'm sure it is this though :)

I had the same problem. All games worked perfectly then a month later they didn't work and I would get that error. Updating the latest firmware fixed the problem completely for me. Try that and see if it works. I would say it's the laser if that doesn't fix the problem.

This is an Xbox 360; you would hope the laser has not gone allready...
Lasers can deteriate quickly, however, by using bad media, like he was.

Hold on, ripper you say burn higher than 2.4? Everywhere I have seen online, it says to burn on that speed. Might be a reason for why my Gears of War doesn't work properly. It even is a Verbatim disc.
It loads and my friend even played some of it but it has started freezing and saying unrecognized disc error. Should I burn my DL backups at 4x and 8x?

I have the Hitachi but I'm not exactly sure because I didn't do it. I have 7 other games that work fine though. Is there that big a difference between versions?

Yes, like I said I had my 360 for about a month. Modded it the minute I got it and a month later my backups quit working and would just work off and on or for a few minutes then I would get the right blade stating I had a disc read error. This problem persisted with every game I would try. When the new fall update came out I had to upgrade my firmware (ms28 drive) to 4.2B and I haven't had a single problem reading any of the discs I was having problems with before. That's why I suggested to upgrade to the latest firmware. My other suggestion was that it might be your laser as this was suggested to me many times in my searching for an answer.

if your using hitachi upgrade to birdy 2.2 or opa extreme 2.3, both still working properly, also when creating the backup try using schtrom 360 extract 3.0, i find that games i backed up using ss merger and isobuilder do not work in hitachis but everyone game backed up using schtrom software works mint.
