i have a problem. i bought this cam corder a few months ago and i never try to use it on my computer. Now that i want to pass my daughters bigs moments to my pc, the pc wont recognize the cam corder.
i know that the cam came with a cd, but i can't find it.
i went to the sony store and they got it for $70.
is there any other program that i can use with my cam corder only in usb before i buy the cd.

If yu want to transfer using USb, you probably will need the drivers that were on the CD. I think that if you go directly to Sony, they will supply you a new CD if you have lost yours.
But anyway, I would not even go the USB route. Connect the camcorder using Firewire and you can use virtually any video editing program including Windows Moviemaker just to start with.

I found your USB driver, Free, at Sony, com , click on Service and Support at top of opening page, click on Drivers/Software , enter model . I`m in U.S. Problem could be with operating system. I have XP home and had to download update "genuine advantage " for it to accept my printer , scanner, etc. Also , I didn`t need to install the driver on my HP computer.Try updating plug and play at Microsoft Update. I use Nero to capture video.

Guys, once again: you don't need a driver as long as you use the Firewire port, and it results also a much higher quality transfer.
@bigangel: this cam does have Firewire. The port is right above the USB connection. On this picture it is the middle one:

I actually downloaded the software from a torrent. It included the driver installation so i got mine to work using the usb. Thanks though, i might have to resort to the i-link later down the road.

In any decent PC shop they will sell Firewire cable for a few dollars.
You can also buy them online all over the place. You need a 6 to 4 pin cable.

Hi all,
Following this thread, I too am having problems. I downloaded and installed the driver for USB and still my Dell does not recognize it. Any suggestions? I will go out and buy a Firewire cable today as well - can you confirm that no driver is necessary when using Firewire to connect the TRV280 to a PC?
Thanks,
MIke

Correct, if you use Firewire you do not require a driver; it's plug'n'play...

I am looking now at Firewire cables. There is 4-4, 4-6, 6-6 pins. My laptop likes 4 pins (inspecting with a flaslight). I don't have the video camera with me - is it 6 pin (referencing above thread)?

The camcorder has a 4-pin connection like most camcorders. Usually laptops have 4-pin and desktop have 6-pin connections.
