I'm no expert on this subject, infact I'm quite crap!
But yesterday I come across a DVD (Comedy Series) which I couldn't lower the compression for, so it was stuck on Red.
It only had English Language and English Subtitle, so there was nothing to take away... I tried everyone's suggestions (Full gratitude to them people) and nothing worked, so today I just went ahead and left it slightly in the red and hoped that the extra bit of red (Going over my pre-set 4300mb) would fit on the disc.
So after waiting for deep analysis to finish and then waiting for it to encode, to my horror the drive ejected and asked for a larger DVD as mine has insufficient space!
DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BUT, I had an idea... I thought if the files analysed and encoded which were still on my hard drive were no longer part of the DVD, would I be able to toy with them and shrink them as they were on my hard drive and basically my files! Not on some copy protected DVD!
So when I opened DVD Shrink back up, I clicked the 'open files' icon and selected the DVD folder for the one I just analysed and encoded, when it finished quickly analysing...
to my surprise... I was able to move the slider up and down to make the bar all green!
Needless to say I moved the slider to fit into a 4300mb file size and clicked back-up!
I had to wait for it to 'deep analyse' and 'encode' again but they were a lot faster this time around (Perhaps because they're on my hard drive) but it finished encoding and as my heart stopped for a minute as I anxiously waited to see if it would burn alright, it flew on the disc at 4x!
Pulled it out, checked it on my DVD player... perfect up until the very end of the final credits of the last episode! i.e. Worked perfect!
Now I don't know if it's pure luck or if I've discovered something new or whether this secret has been known since the ancient Egyptians were first backing-up DVDs (Wait.. huh!?) but I havn't been able to find this solution anywhere...
... so for any newbies who aren't experts at backing-up their DVDs, try this technique... it takes twice as long, but you may get lucky like me!
Cheers and hope you like!!

4300mb is kind of lowering the output file a bit much next time try to custom set the DVD to 4360mb.
But yes this has been discussed before on the site. You can and most regulars know you can transcode the movie twice if it does not fit the first time you run it through.
For those large TV Episode DVD's I use DVD Rebuilder + CCE. It is better to use an encoder on these disc rather then a transcoder. Most members are very pleased with the results and are surprised at the quality difference between using a transcoder (DVD Shrink/Clone DVD2/ Recode2) and using DVD Rebuilder with an encoder (CCE).
So if you are interested and know how to follow guides then go to the link below and backup the DVD with DVD Rebuilder and 1 of the encoders.

Okay thanks mate,
I've encountered another problem now, when trying to open my Da Vinci Code I'm getting an error message;
'DVD Encountered an Error and cannot continute'
'Invalid DVD navigation structure'
Will have to search around to see what this means! lol

Those terms are brought up far too often. You won't have to go far to discover what they mean.
As an aside, personally, I like to retain the disc's full functionality. Others, however, don't care, and they re-author the disc to include the main titles/episodes/concerts etc. If you are one of the latter, maybe next time you can try that.
But as larry said, if you're still getting the red bar up top, using an encoder pays huge dividends.

I've started to use the DLs more often now. It's only because I have so many my standards for using them were too high. Before, it was just for movies that I really liked and wanted to retain crisp pictures. Now, it's either of those two that will warrant a DL disc.
They're not at all expensive.

Looks like this?

Those errors, along with a few CRC errors usually means it's encryption related. DVD Shrink can't rip them by it's lonesome-it needs help. I use AnyDVD . Other peeps use VobBlanker dvdfab decrypter, and some other free programs.

Cheers mate!
I used DVD Fab Decrypter platinum!
Trouble is, because I selected the DVD-5 option, DVD Shrink didn't need to deep analyse it, so the quality didn't come out as good!
Next time I use DVDFab Decrypter, I'll select DVD-9, then let DVD Shrink encode it and deep analyse it!
Cheers again
