i would be happy if i could just record my dvd from my dvd rom instead of ripping it. i would guess that i would save sometime if i could make it record as the file type i want (mpeg1). i'm fed up with the whole ripping thing & i am not asking how to rip. can anyone help?

You can only copy direct if the disc to be copied does not have copyright encryption and is less than 4.38Gb. Most DVD-Video do not fit this criteria but if you are talking of copying your own discs then you can do this directly by using Nero for example.
