It's pretty clear MS can't stop the firmware hack, and you can play back ups on Live. It seems like it's worth it to me.

i suppose a risk would be voiding your warranty...but other than that i dont know...cant really brick the drives anymore with the new fws and all. so that would be the only one that i can think of.

I read somewhere(can't remember where) that there was a risk of getting banned from xbox live, is this true? has anyone come up with this problem or are these just false rumours?

i play my backups on live for last 2 months and still ok for me :-)
not saying it will never happen but thats your risk to take.
