Just a quick note for most of you. One thing I have learned from research and also from hands on trial and error is this: you don't need an expensive media to back up the PS2 games. I decided to try, after many attempts and only getting a few to work, the following:

I backed up a game on a cheap DVD-R and a cheap DVD+R. The DVD-R backups worked for some games, but not many. The DVD+R backups worked fine with no slow downs or choppy cut scenes. In case you're wondering about my laser in the PS2, it's been working fine. No problems at all. I've been doing this for a while now. Oh, and I have the newest slim PS2 AND one of the older models. Had to test it out on the older one first to make sure.

I was saying the same thing about a year and 1/2 ago and about 6 months went by and half of the games i copied didn't work any more so do yourself a favor and dont be cheap or you will learn the hard way like i did.

well, you say on one hand, you dont need expensive disk's,but then you say some of them didnt work, which is it?
good disks are not that expensive these days,if you know where to buy them from
my guess is,you just happened to come across a el cheapo brand of dubberies, which worked on your ps2.

my summary would be something like this:-

dont be a cheap b*****d and buy cheap disk's,if you do,you'll probably come crying like a little baby on these forums, asking why your back-up dont work
(@GACG3099,the above is not intended for you,but it is merely what i have learned from a countless number of 1000's and 1000's of disks i have used)

It was the DVD-Rs that didn't work and the DVD+Rs that worked fine.

Oh, and I don't take offense to what you post, I just like to experiment. I'll probably end up getting the expensive DVDs, just want to try these few first

and what brand where they?....
sometimes, even though they were cheap, they might use a good dye
if not that, you may just have been lucky.
as a general term, even though some cheap disks will work, you might find more wont, than those that will
sounds to me you where lucky in your choice of dvd :)

it is not really the cost of the DVD but as Hursty said the quality of the dye they use.
Use DVD's with cheap dye and you are just asking for trouble. It may not be tomorrow, it may not be 6 months from now. But eventually it will come back to bite you.
could be the laser that wears out or the game that stops working.
