I know of a place that will Mod my PS2 Slim for $70 total... The chip is a Duo3 which I've heard to be good, not great, but good. As long as it plays burned Games without a hassle I'm happy.
I did research and found that the Duo3 Chip would cost me $34 online and $5 for shipping so about $39 total... (The site sends the entire kit needed to do the mod, wires, solder iron, laser fix, the whole whack)
I'm just curious if its worth $31 for the instal itself... I know its better than paying over $100 for a new PS2 but I don't know if I should just go for it, or shop around... My City isn't that big so its hard to come by stuff like this.
So my big question is: Is it really that hard to install a ModChip (Duo3 into a V13 to be exact)?
Thanks for any and all input!

It's hard to install any modchip into a ps3, I'd suggest having them do it.

I knew what you meant anyways. At first I went and read my post to make sure I didn't accidentally say PS3... like I could ever afford one of those at launch... I'm 6 years late on a Ps2 mod :p

No shit I'm waiting at least a year for more games and a stable system, I find it's best to wait for a second rendition so we don't get another x360 crisis.

I toally agree... First editions of new technology NEVER has all the bugs worked out... I'm waiting till it hits at least around the $250 mark before I buy one...

Have this guy chip your ps2 for you. http://www.norcalmods.com
I can't say enough good things about this guys work. I am in no way affiliated with him, just a very satisfied customer. He has done two PS2 Crystal Chip installs for me and one PS2 repair. Perfect transactions every time. Very professional!

Wow, his stuff looks amazing, and the prices are mint! I might wait a bit longer than I originally thought and save a bit more to have the job done this well. His wiring jobs look amazingly professional! Is a Crystal chip really worth about $50 more than a Duo3?
""HA" wire (not available on CC1.0 or any other chips in the market) reduces the occurence of "mechacon crashes" which are the most common cause of laser burnout in v12 consoles as well as reducing the occurence of RSOD."
Does this mean I don't need to purchase a laser fix?

To Creaky> I couldn't find a way to PM you... so I hope you read this too... You closed my thread where I was asking which ModChip was better, DMS3+ or Dou3... I wasn't multi-posting as this thread is about a mod chip installers price, and the other is comparing 2 modchips... the only thing in common is that its about modchips in general... I don't see where I broke any rules but I'm sorry if I did... I was just trying to get info on 2 seperate things that somewhat relate to each other in the quickest manner... I figured some people would only click in the links they know most about... some people may know a lot about chips but not much about install costs and vice versa... Sorry if it really is double posting, I didn't think it was tho =/

I think I'm gonna stick with local stores as install from those sites cost more, and then I gotta pay for all shipping charges... The guy who I'm likely gonna go with does a decent job, nothing amazing, but better than a lot of installs I've seen, and since it works fine, thats mostly what counts. Thanks for the advice, both those sites seem great, and if I had the cash, I'd definately choose one or the other.
