Hi I'm new to this board.
I recently bought a brand new chipped PS2 slim, that came chipped. It played everything perfectly, movies, all games (NFS most wanted, Fifa07, GTA, and a bunch of other games that are readily available here in Kenya)
Chipping and sale of chipped games is not restricted here.
Three weeks down the line, I cannot play any game. all I get is the red screen, 'Insert PS/PS2 disk'. I can still play dvd movies and music cds. But it doesnt load any game, chipped or original.
The disk spins for like 20 seconds and stops. I've tried a few ideas i got from the net like, scotch tape and holding the open button.
PS. I dont know type of Mod Chip installed as I didnt want to open it up but I'm giving up now as the guys who sold it say theres no warranty on the console.
I wanted to get a few Ideas before i open it up.

Your system was opened to put the chip in so its Warranty is already gone. So feel free to open it and let the people know of the mod chip you have.
You should let us know of your PS2 Version:
http://www.mod-chip.com/en/ps2version.htm
Follow these easy instructions to determine ur version PS2
After that you should find directions on opening your PS2:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/303681
Scroll down till you see pics of a PS2 Console. This is a fatty, so the directions may be different.
Also you should call and ask the people who installed the chip which chip they used and any info they have on it. This might save you some time and effort.
All this info should help users determine your problem and provide possible solutions. I'm no expert myself, just trying to make sure you give as much info as possible, so we can narrow it down a bit.
Good luck with your search!

The info I have is seems to be geared more toward North American systems. Althought this does give me a good guess.
V14: SCPH-75004, 75003, 75002 (for PAL = EUROPE/AUSTRALIA/ISRAEL)
V15: 2 types released:
- Version 15A : SCPH-77001a / GH-051-02
- Version 15B : SCPH-77001b / GH-051-51
Since your model is literally 2 #'s higher than the V14's bu nowhere near the V13's or V15's model numbers I would be safe to say (But not gaurantee) that you have a V14.
I just hope someone that actually knows what there talking about replies to this so You can get proper help. Good luck as always!

Hi kaboi
As you're in kenya the chip you've probably got is a clone. Maybe a matrix clone like a modbo. These aren't the greatest quality. Also, the guy that installed it should have done a laser fix to stop it burning out too soon. If he didn't do this then this could be the problem.
Also check for wires that have come loose as this could also be the prob.

I managed to open up the ps and there was a mod chip installed with 14 soldered wires. Some wires were bare and some were shielded. cris crossing all over the board.
The weird thing is that there was some clear tape all around the path of the wires. Is this correct?
The chip make was ATF42 or something, the model wasnt clear as when I peeled off the tape, it came out with the chip's name. it didnt look like any of the mod chips that i'd seen at the mod sites.
I checked all the wires and there still securely soldered. I put it back together and powered up but the red screen problem still nags.
Now I need you guys to help me out.
Do I install a new mod chip or whats the problem?
When you get a laser burnout, can you still play movies and cdrs?
Thanks

I'm no expert but a Laser burn out shouldn't allow for any reading... I don't know if a PS2 laser can burn out on such a low scale that it allows it to play DVD's... I think the easiest thing to play on a PS2 is a PS1 game, then DVD, then PS2 disc.... due to the disc surfaces or what-nots... So try a PS1 game.
Now, unsheailed wires are bad. Again, I'm no PS2 expert, but I've wired up many Audio systems in cars and even helped map out a Cars wiring and in those cases, unsheilded is bad.
I know some of the wires, if only one is supposed to be running around AWAY from all the other wires... I think this is to prevent errors and other problems... my only comparison I can relate to is running a ground and RCA's on opposite sites of a car to prevent engine noise in the audio... maybe something like this could be of fault.
IF you have a digital camer, take a few pics of the install, maybe that can help us see if theres an obvious problem with the wiring...
But again, I am no expert. I wish more advanced mod users would reply to this...

Ok, The camera I have is a low mega pixel one but here's a photo a took of the ps board after opening it up, you'll notice the striped wires all over the chip extending to different solder points.
The Mod Chip type is a 'M-7 CP 780 Auto', I figure this must be a clone.
Hope this will be handy for anyone out there who'd like to help out.
PS. I dont mind getting a new mod chip, or any other solution that'll keep this prob from returning.
How do you tell if your ps has been laser fixed??

I'm not sure where the laser fix goes but an example of what one would look like is:
http://www.mod-chip.com/index-cart-us.ph...ct_ps2_main.htm
I don't know if this Diagram will help you but this is the install info of the Neoflix Laser Fix. Maybe you could possibly look for wires alond the solder points indicated by the numbers. If so, trace them to the small chip and I guess that should be the laser fix. If nothing, you didn't get a laser fix installed and he likely didn't do his job, either by neglecting, or not telling you that a laser fix was needed.
I'm about getting to the end of my knowledge of PS2 Mod Chips heh. I'll try some research but unless anyone replys, possibly try another post with all your collected info.
As always, the best of luck to u!
