I have one question! do DVD-Video DVD's have more capacity that DVD-R's?? Iv'e seen a few programs that say they make a DVD movie fitt on to a DVD-R?? and i also read a thread about people discussing what sizes they usually use on their backups. So my question is simple: are DVD-Video larger that DVD-R?? or are they talking about DVD9's?

99% of DVD-Video's are DVD-9. A DVD-R disc is DVD-5. You need to visit some of the basic 'how to' forums here to see how you can compress a DVD-9 to fit onto one DVD-R. A good tool to start with is DVD Shrink.

Well because they can. They can then throw in a bunch of useless extras that no one actually watches or uses.

The 9 does not necessarily refer to the size of the disc i.e Gb - it's just the maximum Gb the disc can hold. The movie of Lord of The Rings is on one disc. The extras are on the other. Virtually all commercial movies are on DVD-9 unless they are pirated.

Its teh maximum size of the disc, rounded up to the nearest whole number.

The last two links on this page show DVD-5 and DVD-9 movies. The second last one is a list of all Region 2 DVD-5 i am aware of. The last does searches for all DVD-5, 9, 10, 14 and 18.

It's only on 1 disc that I've got and the extras are on the other. Maybe it's different in UK.

Yeah, iv both versions, extended and normal. 3 DVD's and movie is one disc. As Discmania says, probably different in UK. Check the Goodfellas thread.
