I have successfully burned about 10 backups with these discs purchased at Sam's Club. Last night i had the cover off of the spindle and got a side view of the stacked discs. Yikes! The edges look like they have some imperfections-ie "bubbles", etc. They are not flaking, the imperfections seem quite permanent. The discs play fine. Has anyone seen this sbefore? Am I sunk? I backed up these discs for a family member, now do I have to go get the discs and re-backup them or can I use the backups to do this, or am I safe with these?

Help,

Chris

Yes Yes, I've seen them on Riteks (Supposedly Riteks are "good" quality-they work fine) although I haven't seen them on branded stuff like Verbatims as the verbatims I have used have a clean edge. Not that I ever looked that closely.

Have seen this on many Datawrites. I think they are re-labelled discs.

Doesn't that make you think that the discs are "put together" incorrectly? It makes me think that the layers aren't fused together completely and may come apart eventually...

I wouldn't worry too much about them. If they play/burn properly then you're good to go.

Don't concern yourself with such trivialities. When you start getting bad burns and start wasting discs then the bubbles on the edge will be the least of your worries...

I agree, just wondering about longevity...

Well hopefully the branded stuff they charge you an arm and a leg for is better than the generic stuff that you can buy in bulk from online places that deal in media.

No one knows the archival life of dvd media for sure despite their claims of 100 years, etc.
