Anyone know where I can get another of those ribbon cable thingys that connects the reset/eject buttons to the main part of the ps2? It's that silver thing that about 1/2 inch by 10 inches.

A friend took his ps2 apart to "fix" the laser because he was getting dre's with it. He printed out some instructions, but seems to recall the the person said that part "wasn't needed" and could be thrown away.

=)

He was wondering why he couldn't get it to power up anymore, and gave it to me (to keep) since he knew i liked to mess around with stuff like that.

Unfortunetly, i don't have enough of one to see how it was done, and i'm not going to risk my working ps2.

I'm hoping either someone knows where I can get it, or what I can uses instead (and possible some instructs on how it's connected), or maybe has a dead ps2 that they don't mind sending me that part?

I've been trying to find pictures so i could just use some wires to connect them, but i'm at a loss so far, none of the pictures seem to focus on it.

dude i dont know if you could get any other type to replace it, but its very easy to re-connect, i opened most of my ps2 to get access to the little socket, this is where the end of the ribbon with the blue sticker is attached.

the problem is, i don't have any of the ribbon thingy to see how it's connected. While there's a very, very small corner piece still at the top of the reset/eject buttons, I had no idea where it was connected to until i had to take the top off of my working ps2. And even then, i couldn't tell where it the end of it is connected to on the dvd drive. Under the battery thingy i think.

I don't know how many wires it had in it, or if it had a connector on the end.

The person who i got the ps2 stupidly threw it away. Why he would think that sony would add parts that weren't used/needed is beyond me.

I would like to fix this since it should not be that big of a thing. I'd rather not blindly jump into it and screw things up worse.

If the swich is connected on the top of the PS2 cause it could be pop out on the other side of the swich is a little hole where it plugs in and in the motherboard there is a little connector that is the same exact size. But without that ribbon u cant connect it. My friend tried soldering wires to it and he fried the motherboard. If you have that ribbon it is not hard to connect at all and unless static u should not break it by connecting it to the wrg place cause it only fits one place.if its flip around it would not be in contact with the pins so it would not break. however tweaking the laser is a hard thing to do and i dont think your friend have fixed it yet
