How do the different mod chips rate?

Since the price of GC mod chips have been dropping down, i've been considering actually getting one.
http://www.mod-chip.com/en/select_gamecube.htm
has about 6 different mod chips.
I'd really like to get the DuoQ, mainly since i'm going to have to buy the gamebit tool also.
Or the Xeno GC since they both are just over $20.
But i noticed the Qoob SX is the same chip as their pro version, just without the programmer, and I was wondering if that was a better way to go.
But then the Viper GC is just $5 more and that has the programmers port (parallel port). But, then, i'm probably into $60 before shipping now.
I guess the question is, are the DuoQ and/or Xeno GC decent chips? I basicly want to play backups, emulators, some homebrew stuff. Are there games not compatable with those chips?
Or is the Qoob SX &/or Viper GC so much better that is worth paying twice the price?
I can live with not being compatable with a few games.

If you're interested in emulators don't get a XenoGC or DuoQ. The DuoQ has issues with one of the motherboard revisions (don't remember which one) and both chips have trouble with playing anything other than back-ups. If all you wanted to do was play back-ups, the XenoGC works great, and would be an excellent choice.
Step up to either the Viper or qoob line-up and you'll be fine. Compatibility is more or less perfect with the qoob BIOS, as I haven't found a single game that doesn't work with it. I recommend getting a qoob SX if you're really that worried about price. The qoob Pro borderlines on overkill anyway.

Thanks, i appreciate the replies. In all honesty, playing backups is what I mostly would be doing. I can play emulators on my computer anyways. I guess i don't even know how the emu's play on the gamecube anyways.
Actually, thinking about it (and editing a mistake in this post) I think i will go for the Xeno GC. Probably going to wait till after christmas to do this though.

In all honesty, emulation on GC really isn't that great as there are only a few worthwhile emulators available anyway. If you have an Xbox, I recommend running emulators on that instead since everything can be stored on the harddrive.
Like I said, the XenoGC is an excellent chip for back-ups, and the low price point makes it even more desirable.
Let us know if you need any help when you get it :)
Or just post back about your success if you like.

I don't have an xbox, but do have a ps2. But i have a lot of computers, with quite a few of them being able to play almost all emulators decent. Defiently better then an xbox. =)
But yes, if will defiently ask for help when I do it. I'm not stupid, and I have done some soldering of different stuff. I do have a 15watt soldering iron also. Plus I understand it takes a lot of patience, which is okay, I can deal with that. Steady hands, check. I'm dyslexic though, so I make sure I triple check stuff first. =)
I'm pretty confident that i can do it without screwing up. Of course, that might change once i have the instructions in my hands. But there are a few tutorials and I think even vids that people have done.
I will let you know how it goes, thanks

I wasn't referring to the soldering so much as general stuff such as GC disassembly, burning quality back-ups, etc.
I installed a XenoGC on my brother's GC a few months ago, and it's fairly straight forward.
As I recall, it doesn't come with any printed instructions, so here's a link to the XenoGC's install diagram.
Oh, and I only recommended emulation on Xbox since you seemed interested in running emulators on consoles.

I came across some real nice prices here:
http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/search.html
Anyone familiar with Divineo?
I was thinking of getting the GC Ninja Mod because of it's ability to update the bios and load elf/dol files thru dvd and bba.
The Xeno and Duo Q, I don't think you can update their bios/firmware.
Granted, $8 for the xeno is sweet.
Question is, can I trust Divineo? Oh, and how does the Ninja Mod compare to the Xeno?

They are going to make a 3rd version of it? Seems doubtful since we are at the end of the gc lifecycle. (not that the gc not good anymore, just not much more new software).
I'm planning on getting the Ninja just after new years.
But some loser with anger management issues broke my cellphone yesterday (and tore a big gash in my thumb).
I want to sue someone, whats the point of being able to dial 911 when all the person has to do is grab it out of your hand and break it? I mean, really?
but anyways, hopefully that won't set me back too much. I still have my ngage qd, just need to get a replacement sim card.
umm, what is this thread about again? oh, ya.
I want to get it as soon as possible since it's aparent that the place is selling off the backstock.
anyways, back to eq2 (got a new video card last week, X1950, it's so sweet)

OK so to revive this thread (which was what I was looking for) .. I've gone the route of trying to get a max drive pro - it's nearly absolutely impossible. Basically I'm down to this: I want to play backup games (mini DVD-Rs direct boot if possible) and try to download a bunch of my SNES games to a mDVDR and play those. Do qoob or Viper support that?
So anyways, I need to know the best mod chip to get, one that will run GcoS 1.5 because I assume I'm going to need to use the disc explorer to run any SNES roms. Super Mario All Stars here I come!
If all works, then I want to do both of my brothers' gc's as well!
Thanks in advance, this is a freaking awesome forum :)

XenoGC supports the SNES/NES Emulators. The only way to do a direct boot is through a mod-chip. I have a XenoGC and it boots emulators and rooms just fine.
I'm thinking of getting rid of my Gamecube actually so if you want it u can have it.
