The Kind of disc that the ps2 can take are the best to buy would be the Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 8x and burn your games at 4x the speed. And 1 of the best places to get is at http://meritline.com/taiyo-yuden-dvd-media.html they dont sell 8x in stores no more! you got to order them....

(store bought) discs will always were down your laser quicker, this effect can be minimized by using media with quality dyes like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim

Maxell is one of the worst brands.
With dvds i only got 2 successes in ten tries.
Loadings too long, freezing, etc...
Just coppied the data from the bad ones to a TDK dvds, and all was fine.

Well guys...I relie on my taiyo yuden's(made in japan) only no other's...8x when comes to burning games...If you can't get them PLEASE look on the back of the case to atlease see if they are Made in Japan, Verbatim is next's to the taiyo's in line...I think there made in Taiwan atlease...The one's...I see at Microcenter 50 packs and there are some made in japan but hard to find .I use the verbatim's to burn movies with 16x...but...I don't burn movies that fast only at 2x or 4x...The slower you burn the better quality you get depends on your system you have

All Yea this this a good thing to know to:

Memorex give many people problems as they are not great quality.
And also 16X discs can give you problems.
And DVD+R can have problems being read by some PS2's, especially slimline models. That is if your burner doesn't have the option to booktype a DVD+R to a DVD-Rom, because that could really help.
Here are my suggestions.
1. Update your burners firmware to the latest version available
2. see if your burner can booktype a disc
3. get some quality 8X DVD-R discs and burn them with DVD Decrypter at 4X speed

my suggestions for first class media (according to media guides)
and so you know, where they put the "X" in the media ID there would be a number like Taiyo Yuden TYGO4
Taiyo Yudon (with YUDENT, TYG0x dye, many fakes made, make sure you are getting the real thing!)
Ritek (G03/G04 dye, many fakes made, make sure you are getting the real thing!)
Verbatim (with MCC02, MCC, MKM (DL) dye)
Fuji MIJ
Maxell (Japan) (with MXLRG0x dye)
Sony (Japan/Taiwan) (with SONY0xD dye)
TDK (with TDK, TTG0x, TTH0x dye)

They work good but... there bad for the dvd reader/burner. And they loose the data that are recorded on them after a year or two.
