Surround Sound for Cable TV

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this.

I'd like to hear Surround Sound while watching Cable TV, and while playing Xbox. I'm completely lost in which is suppose to be in/out audio and all that jargon. Below are pictures of back of TV, and DVD/Home Theatre System.
