hello,

this will take a few paragraphs but please help me. so i just got a new ps2, well it it isnt new new, but it is the old chubby style. i think version schp-39001. i have the network adapter and i am trying to install the hard drive so that i can save my games to it. so i can minimize load time and decrease strain on the laser. i have a maxtor 200gb hard that works with compatible with the network adapter. it was shown on the list of compatable drives. i also downloaded winhiip version 1.7.3 and used that to first format the hard drive and transfer games on to my hard drive. i was successful with all of that. i also made a copy of hdloader and burnt the .iso or the .cue (just the .cue) to the disc as an image in Nero or Alcohol 120%. i also put the jumper on the harddrive to the master setting. when i hook everything to the ps2 including the hd and network adapter and load the cd or dvd of hdloader depending on which burn application it is for, i get a screen on my tv that reads please insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disc. i have downloaded the versions of hdloader from

http://dl7.rapidshare.de/files/23995983/...VD_ISO_s_8b.rar
and also
http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=hd.html

i dont know what i have done wrong and why i cant load a game from my harddrive. i dont think it is the ps2 cause i have tried this on both of my ps2s. the version of my other ps2 is schp-50001. the same screen comes up no matter which ps2 i use. could it be my network adapter? the connection seems really good.

do i have install hdloader on to my harddrive and add that as an image?

maybe i just cant burn a cd/dvd

the latest version of winhiip is 1.7.6

if the ps2 dont have a chip or if you are not using swapmagic the ps2 won´t read the disk

You cannot use a copy of HDLoader, You must use an original disc.

As far as I am aware there is no way to get around this without using a ModChip, but if you want one of them then why use HDLoader?

http://www.hdadvanceuk.com - to purchase a cheaper original disc.

also you don't need to use the network disk.

Here is exactly what you need and how you do it.

1x PS2 (not slim)
1x sony network adapter
1x Maxtor Hard disk (Maxtor generally have the exact physical connectors)
1x Genuine copy of HDLoader 3.0
1x PC with DVD ROM (also with a spare IDE port or a spare Ethernet Card)
1x copy of DVD Decrypter
1x copy of HDL_Dumb
1x Cat 5e UTP Crossover cable (only needed if you connect via ethernet)

Steps

1. Connect up your hard drive to the PS2 using a network adapter.
2. Turn the power on insert HDLoader disc and when prompted, Format the drive.
3. Put the game you wish to "backup" into your PC's DVD ROM drive.
4. Run DVD Decrypter, Click on Mode on the menu bar and choose ISO > Read then hit the button (this will take around 15-20 mins).

5a. for ethernet, connect your ethernet cable to your PS2 and PC then click start > Control panel > Network Connections. then right click on your network connection and go to properties.
In the text box double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
Turn on "Use the following IP address" and use these exact settings.

IP address: 192.168.1.111
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 'leave blank'

Click "OK"

Reset your PS2 and boot while pressing the X button on the Control pad, this will boot HDLoader into server mode.

5b. for direct IDE connection, Connect your HDD up to a spare IDE port (not forgetting to set it up as Master or Slave)
turn on your PC [the drive will not show up in "My Computer"]

6. Run HDL_Dumb and if you are using ethernet click "attach"
A Directly connected HDD should be found automatically.
Open up your ISO file and give it a name.
(you should not have to use any compatibility options exept "Disable network support" this is obviously for any netplay games, the SoulCaliber2 patch was before version 3.0 which now doesn't need to be patched)

All of your games should now work just fine.

NB. Try and steer clear of downloaded games and only rip them if you have an original disc as lots of downloads are patched and decompiled in similar ways and could do unpridictable things or not work at all.

NB2. If you have an NTSC Television HDLoader 3.0 will let you play those games using this method.

You can d/l Hdloader and install a Memory Card Exploit but in order to do that you'll need an orig Swapmagic Disc / Slide card or Fliptop
OR
you can use Action Replay Max Evo with the USB Pen Drive
Create the exploit with Independence compiler and save it to the MC that way...

I'd go with Swapmagic/Slidecard or Fliptop rather than buying the Hdloader

1st you can use it to create the MC Exploit with the most up to date patched ver of HDloader (Which is more compatible than the store bought ver) and 2nd if a game isn't compatible with Hdloader then you still have a way of playing a backup Cd or DVD

and for the same price you're paying for just the Hdloader you can get the swapmagic / Slidecard combo I'm sure...

you can install the mc exploit with HDloader, just takes a bit more effort. You can do this by creating an iso with Execftp using PS2 CDDVDGen and injecting that onto your HDD, then you can access your MC to put all of the files you want e.g. Updated versions of HDloader. The original HDloader discs becomes a bit useless then tho.....at least games load up quicker tho.
