Hi all, I have looked endlessly recently to try and solve my problem however to no avail. Been a while since i have used me ps2 but it all still works like it used too.
Firslty I have a PS2 (SCPH-3003, 8 screws on the underneath) that has been chipped (dont know which type) for 3 or more years. I use Action Replay V2 to start the games I have.
However i decided to make my own back up games, but no joy in doing so.
I am using DVD-r's (various media types including maxell)
Burning at slow speeds, x4 or slower.
Nero or dvd decryptor for burning.
Burning the unrared image file.
PAL games

However when I go to play the game it will not boot after the AR V2 swap. I have tried various booting procedures to see if it works, but it wont, the screen freezes on the with/without codes hanging there.
I have succesfully downloaded a cd game for test purposes (oni) onto a cd and that boots fine. But I cant get any DVD-r's to work
However I have noticed the backup games i have and that work are all on cds. is it just because my ps2 only plays cd backups or is there a way around to playing dvd-r's with what i have.
If there is no solution what is a best, cheapest way to play backup dvd-r's.

can any help!!

Thanks

p.s
I am no pc whizz or console buff, just very mediocre at both

old chips like the Magic 3 used different boot modes for different types of games. you had to hold the reset button till the blue eject lite came on for it to be in PSX / Video DVD / Original PS2 DVD game mode.

the thing is the chip is trying to swap modes between loading the Action Replay/Gameshark (which it sees as an original CD based PS2 disc) and then trying to boot a DVD based PS2 game and it can't so it locks the BIOS.

the best fix is to fit a new up to date chip like the DMS4 Pro SE the Crystal Chip or the Matrix Infinity greendot (depending on which suits your needs the best)

if it'll boot a +R it'll damn sure boot a -R, -R's are the most compatable disc with ALL DVD drives (movie players/PS2/XBOX/Etc..)+R's can be booktyped to -ROM and made mostly compatable but not 100%.

im not gonna argue but im just saying thats the go with my ps2. i burned gta san andreas to a -R and it would not boot. so i burned it again to another -R and it still wouldnt boot. so then i burned it to a +R and it worked and still works.

KC is right in that -R's are better. Maybe your -R media is of less quality then the +R's that you are using. But if you use a quality -R compared to a quality +R you will find the -R to work better with any PS2.

Have fun!

On my v5 ps2 Ive used Sony Accucore DVD-R's for my backups. But sometimes (depending on the game) it would load rediculously slowly. I would Recommend DVD+R Media if your DVD--R's aren't up t par with your Ps2. I got a good bargain for DVD+R's, I believe it was 30$ for 100pc. Sony DVD+R [@ Staples... lol). Pretty great deal if you ask me.
