What u mean format with hdloader?
You mean format the hdd so that hdloader can read it or put hdloader onto it as well, and run hdloader off it?

If its the first one then use WinHIIP

you cant run hd loader off the hdd, because you need to "Load the HDD" hense the name. Use an exploit. Use swap magic usb pen drive elf launching compatibility. Read up on stuff before you attempt things such as this.

Actually you can boot HDloader off the hd drive

You can launch it from the Hard Drive with launch elf

1st you boot an older ver of Myps2 (Ver .3 is what I'm using) via launch elf and exploit

you use it to create a partition on the drive for your elf files program files etc)

then use it to copy elf files (Including itself) to that partion , from USB Pen drive , CD Rom Mem card etc etc

Then you can delete those from your memory card and config launch elf to boot from the elf files on the hard drive instead of the mem card

So when my PS2 boots up it goes to Launch elf menu and I choose from things like Pgen (Sega Genesis Emulator) , Codebreaker (for my game saves that I can transfer from MC to Hard Drive) HDloader and Myps2

Interesting, So you can use MYps2 to make 2 partitions on your hardrive? One for you hdloader games, and one for you elf files and mp3's etc?

Yes you can

you can also use MyPs2 to create directories for your files too...

Yeah the older Ver of MYPS2 are easier to install than the newer vers.. I tried the newer vers and I got Gui Errors so I went with .3 and all was good...

So let me get this straight, you can boot to this screen where you can choose to load HDLoader among other programs. So basically a STRAIGHT BOOT UP of an unmodded PS2 with no PS1 or SM disc needed to initialize?

No you still need a MC Exploit which boots up to Launch Elf and from there you choose the programs you have installed on your HD

I gathered as much, I was simply wondering whether you would need anything in the DVD drive after everything was setup (i.e. after the MC exploit was in place and all the rest). So every subsequent boot up after that wouldn't require anything in the DVD drive to initialize, just the MC exploit and potentially additional software on the HD.

No you still need the PS1 game that triggers the exploit in the drive...
So when you bootup your PS2 it goes directly to Launch Elf

if you don't have it in the drive it will just go to the browse menu...

Then I suppose I'll stick to my original plan of booting from SM disc to USB pen drive. Or dump the relevant files from USB pen drive to MC card and simply boot from MC card using the exploit.

What is the easiest (or best) file manager type program for the PS2?

Oh, cool, I see, it's not much different then what I'm doing. I have the mc exploit load elfs off a usb drive, but I can just have it do it off the hd.

So, when you are building the exploit, you just have it point to the harddrive instead of the mc for the launchelf file?
That's basicly what you are saying?

Pretty much.
The hardpart (Which aint even hard :)) is using myps2 to partition the hdd. Then delete to save space on the mem card. Then chuck all your files into that partition. Load up the ps1 exploit which should load ulaunchelf, then make ULE point to the elf files on the hdd etc.
