Hi Guys, my cousin is after formatting her pc. Well she was running windows me and was having different error problems so she just put the original windows me cd that came with the pc in it and it booted up no problem so she did a clean install.

Everything seems to be working fine but there is no sound.

The pc is a " Packard bell I connect". My friend had a similar problem a month or so ago with windows 2k, he had no colour and no sound. ddp gave me links to graphics and sound driver and his pc was fine.

I was just wondering, would this be some sort of a sound driver.

As before, I checked around various sites including packard bell for a driver for this model but can't bloody well find one.

Could someone tell me, is this a driver issue would you say?

If this is a driver issue, would someone know of a sound driver that would be ok for this type and model of pc??

Thanks

did the PC come with a CD that would contain the drivers?

Sometimes you get PCs that have sound cards that are built into the motherboard and getting the right drivers for them in this case can be tricky.

Can you find out what chipset the sound is built around? There maybe some drivers that would suit in that case.

What model is the PC? Maybe if you report back with all the specifics of the PC, we can help you locate the driver.

No Unfortunately a cd containing the drivers did not come with it.

The actual master disk was used to format the pc so I thought everything should be ok and it is bar the sound.

Hi ddp, it's a "packard bell i connect". Serial p270100701

I don't know if thats any use to you?

Thanks for the replys

Hi thanks for the reply.

I don't know what chipset it is, I'll have a look tomorrow and post it.

Just looking at that second link ddp, under the sound drivers it has windows xp, the pc is actually running on windows me, would it be still ok to run the sound driver?

Thanks

Would I be totally out of line if I ask this question:

"Do you really need to run ME?"

If there is a chance to run XP, you may find that the sound driver will be present in XP. Plus, you will get a much more stable and usable operating system in XP.

I am not a huge fan of MS, but IMHO, XP is the best OS they have come up with to date!!!

Otherwise, you may want to try to emulate a driver written for the chipset and take your chances.

Thanks very much again ddp I'll give that a try tomorrow.

behrad, to be quite honest, I wouldn't use anything less than xp myself and thats what I'm using now.

I use my pc a lot for different things including backing up my dvd's, listening to music and tons of other stuff.

Thing is, I have a lot of cousins and they are only starting out using the pc. One or two of them got pc's and the rest are copying lol.

They are only using it for the basic web and email I suppose and they don't want to spend much cash either so that's basically why most of them have S*it systems.

Hope that answers your question :-)

Thanks again guys and hopefully this works tomorrow.

I would have a long and hard think about using Vista specially so soon in its life cycle. Too many lines of code for it to be bug free :)

Also, there is a good link here on AfterDawn about Vista and how it will screw up with many of the user activities in line with very stringent DRM issues.
