noob question, probably been answered over and over again but i searched your site and cant find my problem so im gonna ask the experts.
ive been using swap magic 3.6 for a while now, all my games work but just now whenever i insert my back-up and press x, it either goes black and stays that way or it takes me to the browser and ato runs my disc and says not a valid disc, this has happened to all of my games at once, they are burned on bad media but i don't think its that seeing as they worked and now all of them stopped working at the same time, also, is it possible for a dvd to deteriorate, because the first time i play the game all fmv's work but over time they become jumpy and pause and i must re burn the game

Your laser is practically dead. Did you say you were using bad media? Thats even worse. DVD discs can deteriorate over time, but over a LOOONG period of time.
Solution: Buy a new laser and replace the old one. Or do a temp laser fix. In the future if you were using BAD media, the same thing is gonna happen again. Watch out.

are you sure? because my originals work, and swap magic loads, it only seems to be the backups, and they worked fine yesterday

Practically dead, dying. Who knows, no one really knows a PS2 better than yourself.
If they do work fine, burn your games on Class 1 media, which can be found in this thread:

This may actually let you boot your backups, other than that I wouldn't know.

update: some games have randomly started to work again but my fav(God of war) still refuses to work
