HELP connecting PS2 online

Okay so i have the slimline ps2 and i've been trying to connect online. I live in a dorm so all we have to do is plug the ethernet from the wall socket to our PCs and we automatically get internet access. When i unplug the ethernet from my PC and re-plug it into the back of the PS2 i get an error saying "DNAS Error (-610) A network error has occurred" when i run the connection test. I've already tried unplugging all the cords and restarting the PS2 no such luck yet. Is a router necessary? Any help or ideas would be great.

P.S. i don't know my ISP because we connect through a program called Clean Access Agent where we just type in our ID and PW.
