For all of these installs i used my 16x DVD-ROM
Hi,
I have just burned off three games to cd(all of which were .bin files). The all consisted of 2cds with the exception of one (3cds).
I put these images straight to burn, as i did not know about checking if the secors were bad.
When i came to install the games that consisted of 2cds, i got a few errors, saying that the file can not be loaded or something along those lines. I kept on pressing RETRY an it loaded a bit and then froze so i pressed IGNORE these games eventually worked.
However, for the game that had three cds, on the first cd, the install couldn't load up an important file so the install quit.
I got peeved off by this so using a program called CDMage, i began to investigate the file.
I SCANNED the file for corruption, it found loads, so then i clicked on "Repair Corrupted Files" it only repaired 1.
So then i selected the corrupted files and clicked on "Rebuild Sector Fields".
I then canned for corruption again, and it found no corrupted files.
However, when i came to install i had an error with one file, and it said:
Quote: CRC Error: The file C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\Splinter Cell\Videos\Credits.bik doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium for which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor.
I clicked on RETRY until the file had stoped installing and then i clicked on IGNORE and it installed the other files and asked for DISK 2, i then cancelled the install.
What does this mean and how do i get it perfect?
PLEASE HELP, i would be very greatful...

You still have the original BIN file right? If so... do a little mix and match surgery to try to create a new hacked together BIN file.
All in all its not too big a deal even if you have to take a different file and rename it to Credits.bik..... BIK is a movie type i think and unless you will be looking at the credits a lot then it wont matter too much.
Good luck... keep us posted

I modified the original .bin file, and CDMage saved the changes without asking me. So if i want the original i will have to obtain it again.
How would i mix and match .bin files? I am a rookie at this sort of thing and i havn't a clue what i do half the time.

To delete an a file from an image: using something like WinISO, open up the image, maneuver your way to the file and delete (right click, delete)
To add something to a file: using CDMage, open the image, maneuver to the desired directory, right click, import.
Doing this should solve your problem provided that was all that was wrong -- if there is serious corruption this may not be enough. So essentially just mix and match the good files to get a hacked together good image hehe

Ah, but what if i extract the file onto my hard drive, delete the file on the image, AND THEN insert the file that i extracted, will this come up as a corrupted file again?

Praetor i am very greatful for your help, thus, I decided to take your advice, so i serached for the file, bit the only problem was that the file could not be found.
However, i suspected the file would be in a file called data2.cab, as this was giving me problems earler, so i tried to extract this file so that i could open it up, but there was an error reading it with both the programs (CDMage and WinISO).
Also when i scanned the image for corruption (with CDMage) an error had appeared stating:
Quote: Error reading sector 64,033 of track 1
Does this mean that i will have to download the original .bin file and then compare the two's sectors?
Also how would i modify the sectors if this was the case?

1. It doesnt hurt to get the original again
2. You can try to repair it with CDMage (make a backup first)

It shouldnt but it WILL show up corrupted if both copies are corrupted (obviously). Also keep in mind that the originals you downloaded may be correupted too
