marker labeling for longterm storage?

A very long time ago I read on the precursor to this forum that it wasn't recommended to use felt cd-markers to label cd-rs that were intended for longterm storage. I managed to pick up a few hundred Kodak gold cds before production stopped and am planning to make a backup of my music collection. I have already started, storing the burned cds in one of those storage briefcases for 208 disks, but it is getting pretty confusing with no labels. What is the word from the pros?

I have never known a big felt tip to eat through the cd or anything (here's hoping to see some pictures... Pio?)

I also dont know what the experts opinion is on those "CDR Pens" that are fine point things... but a pretty good solution for many is to write on the clear plastic bit, on the very inside of the cdr :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried writing on he clear plastic rim, but it doesn't prove the best surface to write on. By the way, I think it was Pio (though I may be mistaken) who commented way back when about my concern!

At the end of the day, you are likely to be storing your CDR's in a sleeve, a case, or wallet with an inlay type card in front of it. As long as you are not a seriously messy pup, just a small piece of ID on the clear plastic bit will allow you to find the discs home ;)
