I have a 80GB Seagate that I want to install into my PS2. I have read loads of threads in the forums and still cannot work out what to do.
Looking for some expert help please....
I want to install my HDD and be able to transfer backed up ISO image games from my laptop to my PS2 via crossover cable.
I think I need HDLOADER/HDADVANCE to start this - I do not have any of these. I have an ISO image of HD ADVANCE, can I create a CD-R/DVD+R and use this as an alternative to purchasing? I also believe that these programs are no longer available to purchase?
Is HDloader/HDADVANCE the method by which you would boot the ISO image from the PS2 HDD?
Is there a way of doing this (booting) from the MC? I see this is possible with codebreakers, but can i do this with Maxdrive?
Do I need a flip top? I don't want to transfer my games via the PS2, I cant use DVD Decrypter to create the ISO on my laptop so I don't think I need a flip top?
Help much appreciated, I have bought the HDD and would like to be able to do something with it!

i only think you will be able to play the disc you burn if you have a modded system, like any other back up disc. So that means either a mod chip or Swap Magic and fliptop. A DMS4 Pro SE would have a built in HD loader so getting one of those installed would be all you need. It can copy a game from a disc to the hard drive in about 20 minuts or less.

yes

no idea

if you are using original games you would want to put the disc in your PS2 and let HD Loader/HD Advance copy it to the hard drive, not transfer it. Because when you copy it with your DVD burner there is an area that can not be copied, which is why people need a modded system to play PS2 back up's
hope that is some help. I do not use HD Loader or HD Advance programs as i have a system with a DMS4 Pro chip in it. So all i needed was that to be able to play all my back ups, and do al of the stuff needed for that hard drive like format it, load or delete games, and also store and load homebrew application. also a built in cheat device so no AR Max or Codebreaker discs are needed to play with cheats.

thanks.
I guess it seems the best thing to do is to get a DMS4 Pro chip.
Are these easy to install?
Could i do it myself?

i would not reccomend it unless you are quite good with a soldering iron. The solder points are very tiny. Best thing is to send it to a reputable online site like Teammodders and have them install one.
this is a picture just as an example. They do make a solderless version DMS4 Pro EZI but they cost more and you would have to be very careful when installing it. and i only reccomend those to people who do not move their PS2 around much as it is possible to shake them loose.

The cavalry has arrived.
First up, i've just bought this stuff and its works perfect.
So.....
You can buy hdavdance from the website www.hdadvanceuk.com for £14.
Next you need an old chunky PS2, HDD and PS2 network card.
There are a few ways of put games on to HDD.
All info comes with the discs you buy, but you can also get this from this website. www.hdadvance.com
Look for HDADVANCE.
Then click user guide which has clear pics etc and downloads
where you can get software (decryptor and hd dump)
No need 4 swap magic / slide tools.
Hope this helps, if no reply.

breiduk you could always download the hdloader/hdadvance software directly to the hard that you are going to be using in your ps2. Then install a expolit to your ps2 memory card so that you can but the hdloader/hdadvance by using a ps1 game.

There is an exploit for the fat PS2's to boot elf's such as the HDLoader files off your memory card, The exploit was called the independence exploit (try looking through google) I believe that is the method he is referring to with the ps1 game and mc.
