I'm not ready for the next gen yet and I want to keep my ps2 for at least another yet, problem is that it's not working anymore due to "disk read errors" and "no data" errors. The model is scph 50001 and I tried the qtip lense cleaning with no luck and I also vacummed out the ps2 with no luck, this ps2 is the big model....

My next mission is adjusting the voltage but I don't know where the screws are in the ps2.

I had that same problem. I called Sony and they had me ship it out to them, then they sent me a refurbished system. The turnaround time was like 6 weeks though.

I had the same problem and there is an easy way of fixing it!
You can adjust the angle of the laser very easily. Here's a description on how to do it.

I used this method 2 days ago and it worked perfectly!
Good luck!

It has minor changes, the inside of the laser should be the same tough.
I have a different model too but it has the same mechanism for adjusting the laser.
If you won't trie it you won't know it.

I tried the process you was talking about on a newer model with the two cog laser system and i was unable to change anything if anyone knows any details on this newer model (i think its SPH-50003 or something like that) then could you please share it with us.

If you want to play legitimate games then i have worked out a way to make the playstation 2 read the game with out disc read error. This method has worked for me with no fails and i have tried it 100's of times.

Heres my method:

If you boot the playstation with a DVD film disc and let it load as soon as the DVD has loaded and you see the first few seconds of the DVD then press eject and take out the DVD and put the game you wish to play then press eject button again and it should load the game.

Please tell me if this method works for anyone else. I would also like to play games that I have backed up and if anyone finds a method that allows me to be able to play my backup games again without this disc read error page then could you please tell me your method as i am dying to play my ps2 again.

I hope my method works for you people that are having problems its always good to find ways around these multinational, multibillionaire companies that cant get enough of our money and can get away with selling us goods that are built to break. (SORRY FOR THIS GUYS JUST HAVING A DIG AT THE BIG GUYS :) )

I had the playstation for two years, I don't think Sony's warranty is for that long. What the customer service rep said at Sony was that the disc read error problem was being reported alot, and they just offered to do a swap for a refurbbed unit, I didn't even have to complain! That was a good 18-24 months ago though, I don't remember what model the ps2 I had was, I recently purchased a slim and gave the one they sent me to my brother.

OK explain this if there is a problem with the laser why can my ps2 play dvd's or games after i put a dvd in first. i think sony intended to make the ps2 break so they can sell the new slim line ones or a refurbished unit to get rid of systems that have been chipped. im so pissed off i cant belive they got away with the fact that 99% ps2 breakdown after 1-2 years, there must be somthing "fishy" going on.
